sidchrome ratchet spanners

Post by wrinkled bits »

has anyone purchased these spanners , i recently bought a set, only to find they are too big to get into tight spaces , where you need ratchet spanners , has anyone else bought these spanners, what do you think,
I bought these to attack a 2.4 turbo diesel manifold, got the job done with a modified 14mm ring spanner, should have done this first, and saved $148-00

All ratcher spanners have larger heads, it's a trade off for the convenience of how often you are quicker when using them.

I've got the regular sidchrome ratchet spanners, that I don't like because of the hinged head. It always wants to twist to an angle other than what I want.

I've got the sidchrome open headed ratchet spanners that are great for nipping up bolts that are too tight to do by hand with limited access for ring spanners. Absolutely useless if you need to put torque on a nut as they only grip 1/3rd of 1 face of the nut.

As well as the regular kinchrome ratchet spanners that shit on any others I've used. Very small head, very tight ratchet action, lockable hinged head and able to handle bullshit amounts of torque, I'd say they're unbreakable in normal workshop use.

part of being a diesel mechanic is undoing 1 bolt for 30 mins because it is too tight a fit to get anything other than a ringy in and one notch turn at a time. normally you have to do it holding on by a finger tip and hoping you are still on the right bolt.

can be a crunt but ratchet rings are still a god send alot of the time. I find they just dont fit on bolts on pipes or hoses (those in mining or heavy vehicle hydraulics will have a better idea of what im saying).
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

mmm ratchet spanners - with a nice close teeth ratchet they are what dreams are made of - up there with a rattle gun as being the best tools I've ever bought.

Stubby ratchet spanners is the answer. I bought a set a while back and use them more than any other set. Lifetime warranty so when the ratchet dies you just go get another one.

They are great for doing up clamps, and anything minimal torque wise in a fawked spot.

They are generally very thin in the middle so as to hurt your hand if you try to tighten with them too much. - one thing we get used to as HD mechanics...

Ratchet spanners, Hitachi 1/2 drive 18v cordless rattle gun, and a wide mouth 8" shifter can do almost everything!
