Springs... reset or new?

My rear leaf springs are a bit past it. I also need some more clearance so may question is do I have the orignals reset or go the new? And, is the price difference great enough to sway one way or the other?

every set reset that I have seen have also sagged within 6 months. Go for the new ones any you won't regret it...

i got my hilux front leafs reset with new ranchos 5000 at the smae time and that was nov last year and they are still holdin high:)
i got them down out near cambeltown sumwheer..the old way or sumthin is ment to be better :)

I put OME 2in springs in my sierra at the same time a reset set has been aquired for my lil bro's they appear to be way stiff, I'd spend the extra $100 for new ones

Have found the reset springs dont last that well.Spend the extra on new ones it will cost less long term.

resetting with extra leaves increases the spring rate and increases work on the outer sections of the leaves; cold resetting of your existing spring pack is a different story and can have pretty good results, but either way the results are temporary and a year/20,000km is about the best you can expect. new springs are worth the $.

OK guys, you've convinced me, new springs it is. Are Dobson or Carrols ok or would I be better off going to one of the 4wd specialist?

Either would be accepatable. Personally I use Carrols but each to their own. Go and talk to the 4wd specialists but most of them seem to be all talk and hide behind the good reputation of the sign on the door. There aren't many ppl out there who really know their stuff and if they do then you probably wont find them at the local 4wd store.

If you're chasing something out of the ordinary (like many of us here) than the best advice will come from someone who has already done it. If you can't find anyone willing to help then I'd probably settle for OME as a fairly safe bet but at a premium price. Or check the warranties on the cheaper brands and take the risk.

Kings also make leaf springs. I've used their coil springs on a car and was very happy.

Nev, I replaced the oe springs in my '99 Bravo with OME H/D, gives about 2" lift (need to crank torsion bars a little if you do this). 40,000k later they're still at same height, and definitely improve the ride.

The only mod I would NOT recommend is Jumbo/All Springs in Moorebank...I got 2 different sets & both were absolute crap and sagged so fast it wasn't funny....complete waste of my time & money :bad-words:

:rofl: Had exactly the same problem with the Jumbo ones I had- the Kings I replaced them with were perfect!

i had a set of king springs 3" over st. in my IFS lux...........that i once had................running with Konis all round and cranked torsion bars, the bars were maxed out so i had very limited up-travel and no down-travel also, but sagging wasnt the problem, they stayed firm as, it was the fact it was an IFS hilux!!!!


I woke up and bought a suzi!!! :armsup: :D
