fj40 what transfer case to run???
G,Day im building up a fj40 from ground up with 4 link suspension front and rear. at the moment i have a holden 5L injected with a th700 box ready to go in but before i go to order transfer adapters, i want to know what is the best transfer to run, i was thinking gq case??

atlas 2
but seriously, i'd go either a Land rover discovery T - case (lt 230 from memory) if you can deal with AWD (or there are part time 4wd kits available). stronger than GQ, much better gearing options, excelent transfer mounted handbrake drum.
or the toyota split case (late model 40 series, 60 series, 75 series). they hold up as well as gq sheite, but lower gearing is expensive (same as with GQ)

thanks bad_religion_au
but i was looking towards gq case because marks adapters do a dual transfer adapter and with the 40 tansfer i heard under alot of load they tend to slip out of gear

How much are you stretching the wheel base, drive train will get pretty long with dual transfers.
My 40 is getting a Rover LT230 later this year. Best thing about it is the standard low range gearing in the LT230 is lower then the lowest crawler gears available from Marks Adapters, and then the price. Picked my ZF Auto and transfer up for $150.

I've never had that problem with my split case, but there are idler kits out there to fix the problem if it happens.TUFFAS wrote:thanks bad_religion_au

no need for dual cases if your standard low range gearing, like twisty said, is lower than the dual cases will be anyway (lt230 is about 3.5:1 from memory)

my fj40 is sitting at 110" wheelbase at the moment

Not sure what it costs to do the TH700 to GQ and Twin cases things but at my work we are building 2 new trucks ATM one a 45 and one a cut down 60 and we figured if you by a adapator kit(staying with the splitcase) for $1200 buck a set of gears for $1800 bucks and a disconect for $1000 bucks theres a new Atlas threfore we have two altas sitting on the floor ready to go in. is saying that 4K is alot to go in one hit but hey its a atlas sweeett
Whats the 40 being setup for ??? TT, weekend stuff ?? the cases we bought don't have the speedo output that costs more I guess
also a GQ case has the rear output in the center
(like the atlas) and the Fj diffs are off set not sure if is an issue to you but we arn't worry about it for what we are doing
but thats only my 2cents
GO THE 40s!!!!
