Re: std 454 into gq shorty
454 is a bit big and heavy IMO. I nice small block would be better suited or even a LS1

Re: std 454 into gq shorty
GO THE 454
I have a 454 in a gq now after having a 351 before, the 454 is so much better, uses less fuel and has a lot more power. the 351 was not that great at all, however it was awsome in my XY, power to weight thing really.
The 454 also fits in the gq really well, nothing to close and no pannel beating needed. I run the nissan 5 speed, chev truck clutch and marks kit
I have never been fond of autos but would be smoother than the manual as there is so much off idle torque that wheelspin occurs easily as the throttle is touchy

Re: std 454 into gq shorty
have an inj 454 manual in mine. wanted an auto but after talking to everyone they all said the torque converter in the nissan box wouldnt have the diameter to last with the torque the chev puts out. would be a t400 or t700 for sure. even though a lot of people run the autos behind there v8 comp trucks and have no issues. as a daily and a tow vehicle they said it WILL boil the auto fluid and wreck the auto sooner or later.
get on wholesale autos website in vic and have a look at what they do. was qtd $5k for a modified/manualised 3lt gu auto and custom torque converter that they would guarantee behind the chev. he was very helpful.
i have a t700 i will eventually put in down the track on the shed floor when $$ permits.

only the first roll hurts, then its a ride..
Re: std 454 into gq shorty
Mabey a 4l8o? they handle pushing a 2500 chev along all day with a 454 . With the right cooling can`t see why the wouldn`t push a patrol ok.I know they have a huge toque converter and manualized are the closest thing to the turbo 400 with another gear.Must also say that the big bellhousing gu 4 speed can handle awsome touque if built right. Can give you a number of the crew who build ours if you want.Cheers Billy..
