hi guys has anyone done a conversion using ford falcon Barra 182 or newer engine into a 40 series cruiser, I'm currently pricing up how much it is to do a conversion into one running a 60s 5 speed manual. I would like to find out what peoples thoughts are on this engine and conversion are and how successful it has been if anyone has done it.

I've done it using the earlier EF motor and I love it. Toying with the idea of a turbo now just for a bit of fun but it certainly doen't need it. Later model BA motor will be better again. Bolting it all in with the adapter kit is a walk in the park, all you will really need to worry about is disabling a lot of the security stuff and unused circuits from the factory ECU (power steering and a/c and auto trans inputs).

I drove a mates BA ute (manual) a few years back fairly regularly as he left at my place while he worked at the mines. My opinion at the time was although it great for power etc, the throttle response was not great for low down, low revs work. Maybe this can be played with to improve it. An auto for me would be the preferred choice behind this motor. Ray or someone else with more knowledge might have better insight into this...

Totally agree about going auto. I should have. May still go that way one day. Nothing wrong with manual per se I just think an auto is better for rock crawling in general if the gearing is right wether it is a ford 6, V8 or a dirty oil burner.
Not sure about the throttle response down low, again it all comes down to gearing. Mine with reduction gears on 35s is extremely responsive and torquey in low range. I suspect the feeling you got is just that the ute you were driving is a road car not geared to be working that low in the rev range.

There is a guy on the patrol forum that has a BA XR6 motor and auto in a F100.
I've looked into using a turbo motor, you either have too completely rewire them with a custom computer or incorporate the ICC (stereo, climate control, etc)
I have an old school 250x-flow and C4 in my MQ, I have a daily XR6 turbo ute......

ok cheers so the biggest problem im going to be facing it the wiring and bypassing non used systems. who would i be able to contact if i were to get someone to do the wiring?

BA also has fly by wire-no throttle cable, maybe it's possible to swap an earlier model throttle body to it.
Or just use the EF motor?
Would love to see what you come up with as these motors can be had cheap.

This conversion has been dobe before. GQ shorty has an XR6 Turbo in it. Was on carsales for 20k

no it's not.
I would also check the 900 they have quoted is complete, the control module alone is worth $300, the cat 125 and the alternator $165. that is only 3 basic components of the conversion and well over half th quoted price.
Personally if i were you i would buy either an EF or EL conversion. The Au has an alloy sump which are well known for cracking, also it would be hard to modify if you needed to clear the front diff or steering.

I was at a wreckers the other day. S2 BA 6 with no exhaust manifold, no intake manifold, no acc's (pump, steering etc) and that was $900.
Running xr6 turbo motor minus turbo (had acc's, ecu, manifolds etc) for $4500, $6000 with turbo.

I'm fairly sure most people have seen my thread, but incase you haven't here's a link. I put a BF falcon engine into my GU and did everything myself. I will turbo it soon and fit the XR6 GT35 and FG manifold.
Actually ECU re-flashing costs $250 (Bullet Performance Racing in Geelong) and $0 dollars for harness if you do it yourself.
