Hi guys i've got a small problem with my engine conversion that i'm hoping somebody might be able to shed some light on for me.
I putting a ford efi v8 into my patrol and i'm trying to work out how to get the nissan speed sensor to talk to the ford ecu. But i also need the same sendor to talk to the nissan auto computer.
Somebody out there must have sorted this out.

Really. Nobody has gotten the patrol sender to talk to the ford ecu.

I can't help you immediately, but very soon i intend to put a CRO (cathode ray oscilloscope) on the Patrol VSS wires to measure the signal. I know that the Patrol uses a 2 wire magnetic reluctor type so the output will be an Alternating current signal but i dont know the frequency or amplitude of this signal.
I have recently put a BF falcon motor and ECU into my patrol and have fitted a simple 5V PWM (pulse width modulator) generator connected to the ford ECU's VSS wire to artificially let the ECU think it's doing 70 km/hr. I guess the Ford V8 ecu also uses the same 5 Volt PWM signal as this is what is fitted to the output shaft on the T5 gearbox's. I will let you know what is required fairly soon. I need to get back to work to borrow the CRO.

The ford ecu is a pain in the ass to work with Talk to Jason at T.I performance he can do a J3 chip for the computer
cheep and can program it to do just about anything. Then u don't need to hook up the speed sensor to the ECU.

Have been doing alot of research on the subject and have since found out that the nissan vss uses an 8v signal that is sine wave. Also looks like the Australian ford computer that i will be using uses a 8v signal but it is square wave. Looks like all i may need to do is make a simple sine to square wave convertor circuit up and then adjust the speedo to the computer via the program in the computer.

pretty sure the ford only uses 5 volt cause all the sensors are only 5 volt thats on eecv and eeciv

might have to head down the wreckers today and see if i can get a sensor to measure the voltage off.
Just wondering v8maverick did you have to remove the ac compressor to get the motor low enough in the chassis.

VDO dealers often have these adapters that do sine to square wave and allow for frequency mods(to callibrate), I use them from time to time. The J3 tune can dail out the components of the tune looking for speed input, this is mainly idle speed control as the vehicle slows to a stop. I'd do the J3 tune and install the speed pick up myself. I use the TI stuff on earlier Fords and as the factory Tune tends to be way too rich under power and under timed there are reasonable gains in power and economy to be made even on stock engines.

yer the air did hit the rail so i used a f100 style power steering and air con pump witch moves the air con on top of the power steering. ive also seen peolpe move the engine to one side a bit to make it fix.
