What do I look for when purchasing a Rocky
Hi everyone, I am new to this board and am looking at purchasing a 1985 diesel Rocky. But would like some advice as to what to look for. What are there general faults, is a non turbo diesel ok etc. I found a really nice unit today, but would like some info before I hand over the cash. Any advice would be greatly apprciated
hey pepsimax.. welcome to the forums..... you'll find a huge wealth of info here.... i know we have a topic set aside for advice on what to look for on a feroza/us rocky but i'm not sure about the non-us rocky... check out the faq topics and browse through there. 54... what do you think? mike? any one else with a non us rocky got any advice?

Couple of little tips from an old F75 (non-us Rocky) owner.
- Look at the smoke it blows. Black smoke on startup is fine - it should disappear once the engine is warm. Be wary of white or blue smoke at all though.
- Get it up to 100k's and watch the temp guage. Be wary if it struggles to get to 100 (if you plan to drive that fast) or if the temp climbs significantly.
- Look for oil on the engine or oil in the coolant. Both are not good.
- Drive it slowly on dirt and go lock to lock, feeling and listening for any clunks or vibrations.
Good luck, they seem like great little trucks to me.

Thanks Heath for your advice. The one that I am intersted in has done 250k is very clean asking price $5250. An interesting addition is that the previous owner has remodelled the rer bumber and made it into an additional fule tank feeding into the main. It looks very neat, not sure how many litres it holds. But if i purchase it, I will put some pics on the net

when i got mine it had about 250k on the clock but still ran well. its an 1985 f75 but with the dl50 not the dl52 engine. Watch for rust in the door pillars, as most i have seen that old have rust there or the start of it (mine does). Have not had much problem with it that i havent caued through wheeling. though i did have an overheating issue but after a radiator core flush and new thermostat it all good now. Also watch the high/low beam control, have seen a few stuff up and have random light opperation. New part not cheap either. Have blown cv's and stuff but that mainly from hard wheeling and the like. I have OME nitrochargers on my rig and custom leaves and mounts. Have found that the steering stops tend to dent the shock stone guard too, so that might be something to check or consider. With the extra fuel tank, i got an LONG RANGER style tank, and it works great, but the fuel gauge wasnt re-calibrated so its only accureate toward the last half of the tank or so. check if this is the case with yours, saves embarasing yaself by running out of fuel.If ya got any questions ya think about feel free to ask, i try to answer for ya

The place i have seen Daihatsu's crack is on the inner guard right up the top near the firewall. My Feroza had this happened and my dads Rocky that he owned did it aswell. So their may be something in it worth paying attention to.

Another thing to look out for in Adelaide is overpriced vehicles!
I don't think I'd be too keen on that one that carries fuel around in the rear bumper, even if it is only diesel. All you need is someone to plough up your rear end and it could get very interesting!
