1-HZ oil pressure?

Post by Jonno308 »

Hi gents, My current troopie has always had low oil pressure since I got it two years ago. The guage reads only a couple of milimetres above the bottom at idle and only just goes past the first line while driving. I have changed the sender before and the readings are still the same. My last troopie had a 2H engine and it always gave good readings closer to the H line. Is it normal for 1-HZ engines to have lower oil pressure like this? If not, are there any aftermarket high volume oil pumps available for them like there is in the V8 car world?

Check it with a mechanical gauge against the factory specs.

Agreed*^^^^

Also know a few people with 1hz and haven't fixed the issue you have. Just fit aftermarket gauge with his pyro and boost gauges. They just deal with the pressure light on the dash

There is an oil pressure relief valve in the alloy front cover behind a Big nut under the alternator. The valve wears on one side and bleeds off oil pressure back into sump. They are available new and the spring is also available new try putting a washer in behind the spring to increase the tension-pressure if the valve isn't worn.
The main reason the 1 HZ has poor oil pressure is the clearance on the crankshaft main journal's and its impossible to a bearing roll on the mains without removing the engine due to the 1 piece main girdle.

Once again. Thanks for your advice gents. I will have a look at that on the weekend. For the record I am running Caltex Delo 400 15w-40.
