Modding Auto hubs to Manuals

Post by patrol_maverick »

Anyone got any links or suggestions about modding auto hubs to manual?
There's nothing in the GQ/GU bible threads and the search function only brings up shit. And will MQ manual hubs fit a GQ or GU? I have a pair sitting here somewhere.
Any tips would be great.

cant help you with MQ hubs fitting a GQ/GU. But auto hubs can be manually locked.
And GQ/GU are interchangeable and easy to do. Just a matter of unbolting the auto hubs and bolting on the new ones.

My main concern was about modifying the auto hubs to make them manual locking. I've seen a thread before which I can't find now that shows which bits to remove from the auto hub to make it manual, E.g. 'Auto' becomes 'Free', and 'Locked' stays 'Locked'.
I know the auto and manual hubs are interchangable but I only have a spare set of MQ manual ones to try (when I find them) but I think I remember reading that they don't fit for some reason.

How strong are the modded auto hubs? Do they blow out like the factory manual hubs?

the internal spider gear wont fit, but the outer part of the hub will.

I had a set of auto hubs on my ol girl and loved em. If I could get a set of new ones I would. Although the manual hubs are stronger than the auto ones.

Cheers for the link. I did the mod this arvo and it works fine on the hoist. Just need to go for a run to test them.
