Just looked at their website and the tb48 kit doesn't have an intercooler in the picture?

I ran 330rwhp and 15psi on my tb45 for 60 000km's(200-260) and didn't have any issues. I think the weak rods issue has to be the tune because in theory I should have thrown a rod in that time.

I agree with northside 4x4, water to air coolers are not as good as FMIC in my opinion.

Peak power and torque is acheived with optimum timing. Too much timing means detonation and failure. The TB45 rod is lighter than the TB42 and not as strong that can be seen by comparison. There are different ways of tuning, more fuel/less fuel, a lot depends on the application and the quality of the tuner and the application, I don't tune a 9 second VL the same as a 3 ton GU, the amount of load and time of load have a massive impact on engine life. The reality is you cannot make the peak engine power for a long time as the temperatures that peak power are at will destroy the engine over sustained time. Also dyno figures vary massively. I've seen a TB45 turboed fail after 3 years towin 3 ton of earth moving equipment back and forth to Sydney, hardly the fault of the tune. The best tune is the one that makes the most power in the application whilst maintaining maximum service life.

Good point on towing 4wheelinls1.

Just clarifying.

My first engine lasted 75,000 kms and i did a LOT of towing. The heaviest was my brother's Land Rover discovery on a tandem car trailer from Ballarat to Romsey and back again. Drifter** * does have the best possible setup on his TB45 with Liquid LPG injection. Nothing beats Liquid LPG and a big intercooler for charge cooling, to stop detonation. Mine was only a impco vapour blow thru gas system.

The new EcoLPI FG falcons coming out in a month or so are using 12:1 comp ratio because of the awesome charge cooling due to liquid LPG.

The most powerful TB45 turbo that i know makes 352.1 kw at the wheels but it has built internal components ($1500 crower rods) etc. Tb45's can make a lot of power, but in my opinion if you want to turbo it, just don't do what i did. Make sure you fit TB42 conrods or alternatively aftermarket performance rods. It's a cheap upgrade for the added confidence in longevity.

735nm mate. Hopefully the car will be mobile again in the next 4-6 months. Got revised intake and exhaust manifolds, another turbocharger, water/meth injection, more boost ,sucrogen fuel and a custom triple plate clutch (the other custom single plate i had gave way). Aiming for close to 600rwhp, see how we go.

Sounds like a nice ride tb45turbo.

What exhaust manifolds are you guys using?
I was told the same high mount manifold for the TD42 diesel would work??

td42 manifolds are low mount... yep they fit.. id imagine he is using a custom steampipe manifold tho..

hey mate, i have a custom tuned length steam-pipe manifold on now. On my previous setup i was using an aftermarket td42 high mount manifold, which worked well. was getting a bit over 200rwkw with stock engine, td42 log style high mount manifold and a gt35r turbo running 12psi.

That sounds like the go. Those manifolds and to3 turbos are fairly cheap these days.
I would love to set mine up and only run 6 or 8 psi just for a bit more go.
I have to get the wife another daily driver before I get the chance. Can you still run duel fuel (Gas, Unleaded)??
Would a turbo set up only running mild boost have much affect on fuel economy??

Also tb45turbo is there any chance of some photo's or info in the members section??

I havent played with dual fuels in a turbo setup before so cant really comment on that. All my setups have been on straight premium unleaded. As far as economy goes if anything i noticed a quite noticable improvement in fuel consumption in highway use, and even with my 353rwkw setup i was getting over a 100km further to the tank over the stock standard non turbocharged engine.

yeh mate will do. i want to get a bit more progress on it first. I am currently doing a ground up build on it again now. custom spacecab converion, trophy truck style suspension, coilovers, triplebypass shocks etc. Setting her up for high speed. will list some detail of the engine when i go the writeup.

usually once ur car has been tunned ull have more timing off boost and therefor more power.. which = less throttle when ur cruising.. plus when ur cruising with a turbo set up like this even at 100 kph you would usually be in vaccume.. so basicly .... more timing = more power = less throttle = better fuel ecconomy!!

the turbo kit from turbo tune makes the same power on half the amount of boost !! :D

but id assume ur turbo is a normal garret gt3582, where as the one in the turbo tune kit is a custom jobbie with diff housings and front wheel..

did u have any head work done on urs tb45turbo?

yes mate, as the engine sits now the head has been heavily ported.

Kent - you need to chat to Swaff
He has built most of the tuff Nissan petrol and diesel motors to come out of CQ.

There's heaps of options for manifolds/hp/combo's but he is def worth a call - or PM me.
We efi'd a carby 4.2 a few years ago.

Cheers

We made 380 rwkW on James's when I was at PGS, that was with 28 psi boost, 98 octane fuel and water injection. We also made 420 rwkW on C16 at 20 psi, $16 per liter is a bit steep for a daily driver. The engine had rods and pistons, a cam of my design and lots of HPC.
