Re: pics and info on comp rigs
They are done apart from having axles in them. My diff covers from RuffStuffSpecialties are on their way along with my heims. I'm still waiting on 2 shocks from Sway-A-way (been on back order since Nov'10 )jbell wrote:speaking of builds ! micka how are the salsmogs coming along & the rig there going into

Only things left to buy are the steering components and some high steer arms for the Mog ends.
And I have to pick up my disc brake conversion stuff from Bubs

But they are done...and that's all that matters. I'm obviously not racing anyone to finish my build. Did some on it tonight though and my shocks are now Aussie bounddef90 wrote:Micka wrote:They are done apart from having axles in them. Here's a few pic's of my rangie
Re: pics and info on comp rigs
It looks good and all and I am sure it will go just about anywhere but did you make that role cage out of pre-made steam pipe bends? And besides that dangerous bar you have between the 2 seats there is no triangulation or gussets to be seen at all. The rear bars (c-pillar) should never have that kind of bend in it especially as it is 3 pieces with a pre-made bend in the middle. (I will stop there) If you take a hard role you will be playing pick up sticks and pre made bends with whats left of it.Grover69 wrote:Here's a few pic's of my rangie
I am not trying to be a dick but for your own safety you really need some one that knows cages to help you go over it before it does more harm then good.
Re: pics and info on comp rigs

steam pipe pre-bends NO ... yes they are manufactured pre-bends but because we had no bender at the time they got done in 2.8mm seemless tube (we now have a OPW bender)this truck has copped a flogging and alot of the cage has been cut and replaced due to damage and not that its broken at the welds its got slammed into a tree at 6500rpm in reverse which bent the seemless tube in the rear ,cut and replaced, a good welder will back his weld better than any thing ,tube running down between the seat is quite common for extra protection to stop the top hoop colapsing in and i can count 12 tuff trucks which have this so called dangerous tube you talking about
the c pillar yes could be a weak link but with the 4 cross tubes on the roof we had in mind A and B pillar where going to be sufficient
Pick up sticks i think not
this is not a competion rig that is going over at 80kmh or even 40 kmh this is play toy built on a low budget
I dont wont to be a DICK but lets see your truck

Here is the reason I know about the pre-made bends Been there done that. I was not saying your welding was bad but the pre-made bends will brake not the welds. This pore zook had the life thrashed out of her every weekend for 2 years. The welds on the cage never let go but the corners at the base and the front broke/cracked every other weekend. This cage was put together with less then $300 of steel and took less then a day to put together. This zook would be less then half the weight of your rover and if it could brake the corners your rig shouldn't have any problem doing so.
Re: pics and info on comp rigs
cool very nice rigs the top one looks like its gonna be a beast ......so we ruled out that you a internet jockey ,so your first one you built was perfect hey ........,with the bends we have we have not broken any or the welds but we have bent the seemless tube a few time, and to bend seemless tube without braking the weld or bend says somethingV.W.Dave wrote:No problem. here is mine and a few I had my hand in.discothrasher wrote:I dont wont to be a DICK but lets see your truckV.W.Dave wrote:Grover69 wrote:

Re: pics and info on comp rigs
nice zook... but i hate to be a killjoy, can we please get back on to the topic of comp rovers??
there is no such thing as a stupid idea... just a person who owns a rover!!!
Re: pics and info on comp rigs
now that the horse is tied up and water'd.......that orange 80 series cruiser ute......the rear stays/braces going from the hoop to back of tray.....should NOT have any bends in them..............yes yes, I know its probably not a comp rig...but why do it that way....it cant have made that much difference to the usable room back there....
now I got to go mosie on up to the bar for a drink, im parched after that long and dusty ride.......hope to find me a little lady for the night

Re: pics and info on comp rigs
The 80 is not a comp rig it is a Cliffhanger recovery truck. if you look at the rear end you can see where a winch is going (10 ton twin motor that runs off 2 huge bus batterys ) the rear stays are like that because of the 2 tool boxs that go on the back to hold all the recovery gear was the first priority. The hole tray is hinged and tilts back. If you look up in members section there is build threads for the zook (memphis bell and the Blackbull 80)uninformed wrote:now that the horse is tied up and water'd.......that orange 80 series cruiser ute......the rear stays/braces going from the hoop to back of tray.....should NOT have any bends in them..............yes yes, I know its probably not a comp rig...but why do it that way....it cant have made that much difference to the usable room back there....

Sorry mods for talking in here I was concerned for the safty of the driver on the rover and only looking due to the fact that I am just about to go pick up my first landy Disco its going to me by tow rig
Re: pics and info on comp rigs
as a comp recovery rig i would have thought safety the priority....surely with that room on the tray, the back stays could be made straight and still accomodate everything......yes it still could hinge and offer roll over protection....looks like I may have to stay a little longer in this one horse town.....

Re: pics and info on comp rigs
Welp, I thought I had some decent pics of Ruff's old rig.
Is still in a work of progress; he cut the entire rear off after he had it at Woodpecker/Toperi two or three years ago. Is on 39" or 42" Irocks. I forget.
Eyby's Rangie ute and the old Bushie (Jambo's, Nissan Trials and Willowglen) - piccie taken at lunch time today.

Re: pics and info on comp rigs
does anyone have any information on the white range rover that has completed in the lowmead challenge a few times.
It's a white 4door ute'd range rove classic, just interested in any information.
Is he running standard rangie engine? axles? or has he done a patrol diff swap

Very clean looking rover but it doesn't seem to be working very well. Looks very stiff lifting wheels. Any pics of it articulating?

In the video, I only saw it lift a front left wheel whilst climbing a hill with the right rear dropping into a hole...which 99.9999999% of 4WDs would do in the same situation.94lux wrote:Very clean looking rover but it doesn't seem to be working very well.
