Hey Lads, as pointed out on another board there are risks with using a tow ball for pulling, I added annotations to the video with the following warning:

"WARNING, do not use trailer balls for recovery or tugging purposes, they pose a projectile risk if they break under a hard pull resulting in injury or possible death."

I'll be making a safety video with respect that that as well. We don't use balls for recovery here.

Regards,

Louis

your not using it for a recovery, your using it to pull.

if the towball breaks off in this situation, you either have 2 4000HP landcruisers going at it, or your tow ball is made from icecream.

Te problem using it as a snatch reciovery point is the massive amount of energy in the strap as it absorbs the inertia of the moving vehicle.

All true, in this situation the towball is fine, but worth a warning nevertheless.

Hi Fellas, yes I know and figured that in when I did it, that's why I used a nylon strap, no jerking or tugging, straight on pulls on grass. We virtually had no traction. Some guys on other aussie boards freaked out so I thought it prudent to clarify things. I'd never use a ball as a recovery point. We also have big balls with large shafts here in Canada, maybe they are dealing with smaller balls and thin shafts????? :)

was it done in 2wd? seems a little pointless in general as it was only ever going to come down to traction.

if it was just some fun for the kids then i can see the point but otherwise...

Just fun for the kids mate, but the lexus is awd and the 80 was locked for one pull and unlocked for the other.
