EL Airbox into GQ 4.2efi

Post by cliff »

Well I had a mate give me an EL K&N filter = score!!

Went to the local wreckers found an airbox to match = $35.

Chop the bottom down some coreflute bent up, rivetted and silasticed in to place and a quick coat of satin black and this is the result.

does the new airbox make a difference? by the looks of it you dont run a snorkel either - can it be adapted?

I cant say that it made a real difference because I changed the faulty TPS and auto control module at the same time and did notice better performance after all the work was done. I was running a pod filter before so the only difference is that the cleaning intervals will be further apart. As for the snorkle thing you would be able to make one work, but you would have to either run the connecting pipe around the box and into the guard near the firewall, or block the front inlet off and make a new inlet to make it come out on the rear of the box. Like I said there probably is other/better options out there but I got the filter for nothing and the box was really cheap.

i just bought a k&N for my stock box - factory commodore filter i believe so they had it on the shelf.
Supercheap have 20% off this weekend i think - so would be about $80...

So unless there are other advantages of the falcon airbox i wouldn't bother personally - $45 saving for the mucking around.

But thanks for sharing the pics and idea...
Are Factory efi ones prone to breaking or hard to find?

Cheers

The stock GQ efi boxes are hard to find an when you do the go for stupid money. The benefit of the el box is larger inlet and outlets = better flow. Like I said I had the filter given to me and the box was only $35, and I dont mind playing around with little mods like this. Once I get off my arse and the required bits for a stainless snorkle that will be the next job.
