hey guys i have an 80 4.5 petrol its making a ticking noise but it seems to be coming from the geerbox or transfer not the engine as in when its running the noise comes from under the driver not the engine bay it is an auto any ideas fellas

well not to sure but my tourque converter came loose and it was making a tiking sound take your starter motor out and check the bolts

Check for an exhaust leak.

my 4.5 ticks under acceleration. cruising its fine but if i touch the throttle it gets noisey.

sounds like its coming from behind the instrument cluster to me
