FJ 45 upgrades.. What's best and what fits????

Post by HIGHROLLIN_LOWLIFE »

Hey guys I have a FJ 45 76 model and I am looking to put a v8 in it and was just wondering what is the best combination for motor and running gear underneath.. Just wondering if anyone has any info on prices and how to go about it. Cheers

LS1 or dont bother IMO

only other v8 worth considering is the 1VDFTE

if yours has the single piece transfer case, you would be best to upgrade to a split transfer case from either a later model 45/40/47/ or from a 60/75, 60/75 will need some cutting in your trans tunnel for the shifters.

also youl need a disc brake front end for a v8 conversion i would think. Best bet here is a later model FJ45 with disc brakes. (get the pair of diffs for the matching rear brakes)

With a fat turbo hanging off the side. Plenty of room for it.

I reckon you should put a 1uz-fe in it with matching auto from a jap import front cut. Then you could do a big write-up with lots of pics and instructions for me to follow

i had a 350 chev turbo 400 combo in my old 76 45,long range petrol tank that spanned both seats and 240 litres of gas in 2 tanks under tray, for ease of conversion, and simplitity of set up,an old carby v8 is probably your best bet money wise

If i were going that route, i'd start with a OHC 4 litre from an ef-au, but so far mines got about $500 into it going the xflow/c4 etc
