Fuel consumption- 6 ltr in 80 or 100 series

Just chasing info on what fuel economy, km per ltr that people have gotten out of their 6ltr into a wagon conversions? as ive found a cheap 4.5 petty 80 series but would one day like to put a 6ltr in, but just wondering how it would go fuel wise for longer trips...

make sure you hook up the vss also otherwise it will chew a shitload of juice.
brothers ls1 75 series gets about 400-450km from a tank on 37's without the vss, its halfway through its rebuild to clear defect and get engineered and is getting a vss so should be a loit better after that

rouughly 6 to 6.5 km/L with a L98 6L and 6L80e auto on 33's in a full wagon. That is with a stock tune, and running 98 unleaded.

Was about the same when I had the manual box behind it. VSS made no difference to mine at all.

And cheers Killalux, if I ever stop spending money on crap and save properly hopefully Brett Will be able to do the conversion for me which means you'll be doing the wiring as i'm led to believe you do a fair bit of work for him, I guess the only issue will be finding a new engine/auto for the right price once I have enough money

Plus all the conversion stuff! lots of $$$$ I think one guy was up to 12k and hadn't hooked up a/c or had it tuned yet. You can buy three 80's for that price!

to put it in perspective my mates 1fzfe 105 (running 36's , 4" coils, 4.88 gears ) was using 21/100 on the same trip.. I figured that was pretty good for my car seeing as i had twice as much power as him and using slightly less juice.

To me that seems pretty good, I own a ve ss ute and unloaded it's around 20 L/100 with this motor..

For reference. My auto 105 1FZ is turbocharged (W2A intercooled) and with standard gearing, running 315 MT/R's (that measure 35.6" rolling) I get around 15L/100km on the open road loaded with camping gear (going of gps and recalcuating, not the wrong speedo). About 20L/100km in slow hilly (read Blue Mountains hills) town/traffic driving. And about 22L/100km towing a full bodied 16ft caravan.

4.88's are on the want list when $ permit. Gearing is a bit too tall, the stupidly high torque from the turbo compensates though I still want to get it back in the normal engines sweet spot.

Mine averaged 20 ltrs / 100km on our trip to the Simpson Desert & back fully loaded 3 people + all camping gear with 35's on 4.11's with A/C on would of been better but had some stale fuel at the start of the desert section & only got 200kms from the first tank

You could of course rebuild your 4.5L and fit the new Sprintex Supercharger kit for $4400 plus fitting of around a grand or do iy yourself if you are o.k with mechanics...A mate of mine and myself did it off there extensive 53 page step by step installlation booklet over the course of a few nights....Nothing really hard to do at all...
Dyno results equate to 220hp and 420 N/m at the wheels on 35x 315x16 mickey thompson mudders...
Car has 4.56 gears fitted
Before normal cruising with my Mickey T mudders cruising I would have to still change between 4th and fift on any slight rising hill...Now It will cruise over just about every hill with ease in 5th...Thus now giving me a open highway fuel consumption of around 16L per 100klms compared to a minimum of 22L per 100 before the Supercharger....
When it comes to towing ...We tow a 1.6 tonne offroad Jayco Swan which I can easilly tow in fifth thru again most hills up our coast of WA...Fuel consumption is @ 20/22L per 100 klms maintaining around 105klms...This fuel consumption would be lower if I did maintain 100klms I,m sure...
Previously my fuel consumption would of been 25-30L per 100klms...
As I have now had the Sprintex for about 14 months and now understand more about it,one of its good features is that it is not always on boost as it is vaccum controlled..This was made obvious to me once I fitted a boost gauge,where you can see whats happening to create the power it does without increasing fuel consumption....
Od course when it comes to play time....Then it does like a drink....Both supercharged and original ...it can be as bad as 2/2.5 klms a L...but the supercharger is way more fun for the equally bad economy...

Fair enough, I thought you meant a cruiser with an LS1(or whatever) was getting 8L/100km.... Even so, 8L/100km with over 300hp isn't bad

probably not a very helpful comparison at all when the OP asked for consumption figures with a 6lt in a 80 or 100 series, actually, I'd say completely useless
