1fzfe surge

Post by Camos »

Ok so I have had a replacement engine in my car for about 25000km after drowning the first engine! It has about 105,00KM on the replacement engine and (250,000km on everything else, fuel pump ecu all wiring etc) at about 2100rpm it has a small miss! it started off about two months ago and only did it every so often (once a week) and i never thought much of it! Now its getting worse (2or3 times a day) covering approx 300km each day as were traveling!

Its odd to describe but its when im cruising along it just drops power for a split second then bounces back again! RMP don't drop No lights show up on dash to indicate a problem and nothing cuts out! It honestly just feels like I've kicked the clutch pedal in for half a second and it skips a beat/surges???

Im not sure what it could be apart from maybe a dicky Plug (ill check them and replace them tomorrow anyway and see)??? or the fuel pump is on its way out..... but in saying that it never seems to do it when i'm giving it a thrashing and letting it rev right out so it doesn't seem to be struggling for fuel at all even though it gives that split second impression when it surges~

anyone with some ideas as to what it could be??

Throttle Position Sensor usually plays funny buggers around 2000rpm mark on the 1FZ-FE so it could be this starting to fail, perhaps the Toyota diagnostic tool might pick up some fault codes.
This is often the case when water/mud get's into the TPS sensor and they don't rev past ~2500rpm

Good Luck

Good pick I reckon mate. Completely slipped my mind. I had idle issues when swapped over engines so I swapped over my old tp sensor and fixed the Issue. Maybe NOw this one is on the way out.

Got the same problem for about 10 months. I fix it one day when somebody works it out. Thought it may be leads....
