custom seat rails - SAAS into 80 series?

Post by ash_on_mtb »

I've got a pair of SAAS dominator seats that I want to use in my 80 rebuild. And I want to pass an engineering inspection, as well as be safe. In the past I've had them mounted to landcruiser rails, but there is some manipulation required that doesn't make them potentially up to spec. So I want to investigate getting some 'proper' seat rails, for everyone benefit.

Anyone know of someone who can source/make me something that is adjustable, suits the seat belt arrangement and will pass engineering cert. I contacted SAAS and they said they never made a set to suit an 80, and I should contact a race fabrication company and see what they can offer. I initially considered going recaro/stratos/fancy stuff, until the price became clearer... The zero's must have clouded my vision...

Is there 'universal' ones that might fit? I can't really see how, but you never know.. The issue with the existing rails is that the rails have to be moved inboard to pick up the underside of the seat, but then they don't reach wide enough to get to the floor bolts. So they kinda need to be splayed. The other part is the belt clip, its integrated into the back of the seat on the factory ones, but without the seat, they are a bit dicey...

Anyone know of somewhere to start looking SE melbs? Or seen/devised a solution?

Thanks.

Might be worth looking at Recaro rails and bases, they are easily passed for engineering, I've had them engineered in a 100 series and GU now, just be a matter of measuring to see if they'd bolt up to your saas seats.
