GQ V8 VH45 TWIN TURBO....NEW OWNER#225!!!

Post by turbmav »

Just put down a deposit on this GQ twin turbo infinity engine converted light blue lwb. Does anyone know the story with this car as there has been a heap of owners since the build up was do by PROMOTIVE and/or when it was in the 4WD action mag? There has been a heap of money and engineering spent on this thing like 5 link suspension, twin shocks all round, hydraulic bump stops ect. From what ive rea this thing overheats all the time and radiator cut out inner gaurds and twin thermos can,t fix. Starting to think its more engine tune rarther than cooling system fault. Anyway if somone knows some history like to know.

Yeh more fault finding/ debugging. Its a project for me, the base is there ready to go just needs refining. From just a quick look it has no boost retard for timing so i can only suspect timing is been pulled out by the ECU via knock senser. Plus at 10.2 - 1 CR it wouldnt be able to handle much boost before detonation begins making the timing very retarded causing high exhaust temps.

I think the last time I heard of this it was still RWD as it still used the infiniti gearbox... is it 4WD yet?
This is not legal advice.

It was always 4wd, Infiniti auto shares a lot of components with the Patrol auto. So with some swapping around the Patrol TX12A transfer bolts up.

I'm not sure when all the reliability issues popped up with this. I had a bit to do with the original build and it was a good car. Originally had problems with the stock ECU sending the auto into limp mode, but that got fixed pretty quick (about the time of the magazine shoot).
When Michael (original builder) moved to Brisbane from Canberra he did half a dozen runs up and back in it towing all his cars and boats and stuff up there, so it was a dependable car early in the show.

Post up a build thread Turbmav! A lot fo time and effort has gone into that car. I am sure you can sort out any problems it may have. Post some current pics when you start the build.
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.

It ran a touch warm, but never overheated. Michael drove it like no vehicle deserves to be driven too. That dude can steer like he was born with a motorcar on the end of his umbilical cord

I don't think it ever saw a dyno in Canberra other than to sniff the exhaust and tune the gas mixtures? I could be wrong...

I ve started a build/resurrection thread of this truck in the members vehicals section. If there is any info on the engine management or auto, would like to know more about the history of this thing. And some power figures this truck has made too, so i ve got somthing to beat.

Feel free to drop in for a dyno run once you get it sorted mate.
Could even help on the tuning side of things if other shops cant get it sorted for you.

Yeh somthing a bit different this thing. Wouldnt recommened the conversion tho as it fills the engine bay completly plus there is no parts/after market stuff for this engine.
