the police radars are equipped to detect if you are using a radar detector. The cops can and do strip your car to find them to if they are concealed.

not worth the risks IMO

No radar detector is "invisible", even when off and disconnected from power. The radar detector detectors that the police use send out a short sharp "ping" at the radar frequency and then listed for the passive tuned resonant circuit "ringing" of the perps detector, It is like hitting a gong with a mallet and listening for the sound.

I had a few I got from canada when I was younger. Until lasers came into affect. But you can get laser jammers. The cops usually aim for a flat verticle surface (centre mass). 3 at the front and 2 at the rear. Makes you car invisible to lasers. It can not get a reading at all. This includes speed cameras.

from what i have been told (my brother not something solid) is that radar detectors / jammers are not as good as they use to be as most cops are now using lidar and they dont help you, also to try keep you detector from being detected you must keep updating them often. Then there is the case of being catch with it from what i have been told if you are to put it into a sealed, address postage bag the cops need a warrent to open it, it may stop them or it may get you into big trouble.

Mate of mine is a hwy cop and they dont have radar detector detectors. So if its not obvious you have it. Then no one will know.

Also pretty sure there passive receivers anyway.

Your copper mate is full of it, I had Whistler conferscated about 15 years ago on the Pacific Hwy when doing interstate & it was picked up because of a detector detector.

Don't speed camera use road sensors and time the time it takes to cover a distance then work out your speed ? The permanent one do it this way I'm sure that is why there are strips in the road after them (have a look next time you go through one)

Wonder if they have to put it all back together again if they don't find one.........

When my car got searched for drugs the cops were just going to drive off, at 0100, with my door trims and seats strewn all across the hard shoulder on a main highway.

When I asked who'd be responsible for my death in the event that somebody didn't see me putting my car back together and ran into me, they decided they'd stay til I was done.

Granted, they only sat in their car with the rear red/blues flashing, they stayed til I was ready to drive home...pricks

I love mine, but first up I'd better explain as to why i bought it in the first place....
Sick to death of getting tickets in the mail for 5kph over the limit by camera cars in small country towns. These operators generaly operate is spots where just about every person comences a slight throttle increase as they approach the 80kph zone.

Now.... as for their operation, they DO work ..... BUT ... if your the only car on the road then its too late your allready done if your speeding, however, if there are other cars between you and the speed dector gun then the unit will give you fair warning that a unit is operating near you...... it basicaly picks up the "spatter" from the other cars that are being targeted by the gun...

As far as I'm concerned its absolutely no differant to the fixed cameras we ALL slow down for then speed up once we've cleared that overpass etc...

As a performance car owner, I have never used my detector in any of the performance cars I own, its sole use is in the work hack and family car. These 2 vehicles are the ones that have in the past been the 'ticket collectors' for insignificant 5kph law breaking speeds.... yet neither of these vehicles are capable of 200kph speeds where as the other cars I own are all 300kph + vehicles or '10sec' cars......

Finaly..... My detector has traveled a lot of K's with me, at a consertive estimate I'd say around 200,000K's minimum, not once has it been detected and not once have I ever been approached during visits at booze busses etc as to the 'posibility' of having one in the car even tho I make no effort in concealing the unit, it lives right next to the satnav in plain view.

As far as I'm concerned, it gives me the exact same knowlege that you have regarding cameras in your local area, you know when to ease off and when you dont need to worry so much, I'm simply using an electronic device to gain local knowlege.

To the best of my knowlege, they are illegal in all states except W.A.
