Well anyone that was interested in getting one better be a rich mofo.

I got the maxilogue here in front of me, and the prices are as follows;

$1780 Rear
$1780 Front
$1670 2xCVs (AEU2552, needed on my 89model rangie)
$246 2x D/flanges also needed for the front CV upgrade
$90 for the bushes needed for the front CV upgrade

Thats a total of $5566 exGST :shock:
$6122.60 inclusive SUPPLY ONLY

Just go & buy an older front housing. It wont cost you 1600 bucks!!! Then you can use the 10 spline outer axles as your fuse. 5 min to fix & cheaper than a cv.

A locked hilux/rover hybrid setup could probably be done for less than the MD price with the benefit of stronger C&P's and option of using pro/long/wrong/bongfields.

Most of that cost is in the front end . Kick off with the rear locker that already has the HD axles with it. The locker itself isn't where the cost is, but all of the other reinforcing crap that goes around it.

As Slunnie said, do the rear first, but I would get your priorities right and fit that bloody LT230 unit ASAP before forking out your money!!!

Get a rear Maxi first, go off-road for a while and see how you go. With one locker you will get further than you ever think possible. Then fit the front if you wish to go even further than rear only locker. The problem with front lockers is that there are limited uses for them in most circumstances and can only used in a straight line as your steering will be up to shit when engaged. You can use then when turning, but your CV';s regardless of what will not like you for it!!

The 10 spline stub axle and earliwer Rangie C set-uop for your front maxi is a much cheraper option and unless you intend going really hard off-road, the County CV upgrade is a bit overkill. Just my thoughts on the matter.

so how much is an ARB locker and what do you get? how does MD prices compare apples to apples with other products. ALL steel prices in australia have gone up 20% in the last twelve months. ALL. thank-you China. :roll:

The ARB is about $1250 I think for the locker only. JacMac is about $1350 locker only.

Then add axles and flanges which are about $660pr from JacMac and similar from Maxi.

The MAxi prices are expensive, though done properly as it is they are still comparable on the rear at least.

BTW, these are Xmas '03 prices.

Anyone have any idea what the current prices are for a Detroit ( Locker and Tru Trac) for both a Rover and Sals, or

are Haultech into marketing their traction control.....Sam ?????

Not sure about the Detroit locker, though the TT is about $1250 + gst fitted to the rear and $1350 + GST fitted to the front for the rover diffs. This was through Opposite Lock about 7 mths ago.

Yeah I got the pricing just as an idea, of what to expect and was shocked basically I dont really even want the lockers but I do want all the strengthining and axles and stronger cvs etc etc (i think it goes well enough unlocked to be honest).

And yes even unlocked the VC Transfer has already shined its farken POS caracteristics, first time ever it was tranfering alot of power to only my front drivers side wheel when goin up a steep climb and getting diffed up in the ruts, CAUSING MY CAR TO FAKREN REV AND THROW LOTS A SHIT UP FROM JUST ONE CORNER :x with now further forward motion, STOOPID POS :D
It was also after this hill and from the same front corner that I herd the (think is a cv) clunking and banging.

Back on track - Someone mentioned Sams traction control system and I like the idea of it as I have taken note of how its working in alot of there rigs and it looks a treat.
How is this coming along Sam.......... ? ? ? SAM ! ! !

Aquarangie - I am on the look out for a cheap LT230 but at the moment the only prices I can find are up in the $2500 range and thats just crazy. If one pops up for maybe 1/4 of that price i will think about it :)

In regard to the locker and centre conversions and shit to run Longs/pros/bongs etc etc I like this idea but franktly every time I here/try read about it I just go :silly: and never really understand half the jargon and thats why I never really looked into it cause I dont really know where to start :lol:

Sam's ETC (Electronic Traction Control) is great, the best part about it is that if you have 31" tyres you will be able to run it on 10splines without any trouble. It doesn't produce the force on the drive line that a locker does. I am in the process of re-fitting it to my new rangie (which is VC transfer case :? )

Anthony you would be better off getting everything setup right shocks and springe etc and an LT230 into her and by time you get that done Sam will be selling his ETC :armsup:

Shocks and springs and suspension linkages are all sorted, just the drive line and components are abit amiss :)

But sams ETC seems the way to go, but I wanna upgrade the axels and shit aswell, and a rough cost from him to do it all would be nice so I have a figure to go buy.

Quickest and easiest way to upgrade your axles if you are not going to be running lockers is to find a disc to disc front and rear axles out of a later 90's disco when they went to 24 spline. Slap them under your rangie, nearly a straight bolt in....

I can't remeber when they went to LSD in the back of a disc but get that for the back of your rangie. You can always get a detriot tru track LSD for the back, that combined with your handbrake, and an LT230 tcase will be a big improvement on standard, and you can fool you car through a lot of tought terrain with some skillful driving.

That combination works really well with Sam's traction control.

The Disco doesn't have an LSD, though I think post 94 did go to 24 spline. This is when the diff became the fuse - I don't think they are all that strong either having only 2 planetary gears instead of 4 like the Salisbury and the lockers. Even with Sams LSD you'd probably want to look at a set of TT's.

In the end thou it looks like i am gonna be spending the same amount of dough and effort.

Maybe worth just doin the axel only upgrade option from MD ? ? ?
Then getting Sams ETC later on..........

The ETC we are talking about is the same as Sam has in his Lockless, isnt it ? ? ? That coupled with the MD axel upgrade will be good to run 35s on my RR and the CV will be my fuse Until i get it upgraded.

ETC = Electronic Traction Control = Sam's Product that is on the lock less and about 8 other rigs inc my old ranige :) and it is soon to be on my new rangie.

The thing about all this Anthony is that you can get the ETC on the rear axle with 10 spines and 31-32" tyres and she will still drive really well and if you check you axles before you go out for twists you won't break things.

If you continue down the path of " I have to upgrade everything "
then you will just end up spending big $$ and never drive anywhere.

35" tyres are really big for a rangie and not withstanding the fact that they are illegal to fit there is a bit of work involved in getting them on.

You have to look at where you priorities are and how much wheeling you are going to do vs how much road driving you are going to do.
Personally I would run 31" MTRs and save you pennies for traction control
and then see how it drives and then look at upgrading.

You aren't a comp driver, you would go out and break CVs and axles with this setup if you are careful, you can do heaps of wheeling and as time goes on slap some 24 splines under the old beast .

Ok the vehicle is mainly for wheeling but it seems everytime I take it somewhere something breaks :? I dont have oil leaks but I got lots of other shit goin on under the white outer shell in my POS.

Its on 33's all the time and I wanna keep it on 33's until later on when eventually I wanna be running 35's either for just offroad or maybe on and off.

The car is never really driven much at all just to ormeau and back and hopefully the odd occasions to LCMP.
I ma not very super mechanically minded so a breakage on the trail is not something I see as a good thing, I dont know how to change a 10spliner in 20mins and shit like that and I dont/cant be stuck out ormeau till midnight.
Hence my theary of I would rather be safer then sorry.


Sams ETC would be sweet thou :lol:

RaginRover - I learn things quickly, so if i did it once or had a good set of instructions it will be ok, but I still would rather not be busted on the trail all the damn time.

And getting my uncle to weld up linkages and shit on portals will be easy :) .... but it was just a joke :D

you say yourself you mainly go bush and only some light street duties, a MIG rear is the shiznit. positive traction all the time (if you don't have a VC tcase that is). try it cos you'll love it. you'll junk the welded bits for a Maxi locker anyway. nothing to lose and much to gain, my man.

I have a VC transfer case :cry: , and I am happy with my vehicles offroad ability just not its strength :)
