Landy Series 2A

Post by beretta »

Hi All,

I'm doing a resto on a Landy Series 2A, don't know jack about them, but the first problem I have to overcome is the gear box. If I put it in gear and let the clutch out, it makes the mother of all grinding noises. Previous owner tells me he had it "fixed" once already and it didn't last long before it went back to doing what it does now.

Anyone know if this might be a common problem or know what might be causing it and what sort of rough $$ to fix? I can remove and refit the box, but im not gonna bother cracking it open myself.

Thanks for the help!

Cheers, Beretts

they make lots of noises, gutless, like to rust and leak like a siv from the factory... with the gear boxes it might be easier to replace than fix.. that way you can pull it dowm and have a look at your own time.. pm me ive got a few spares and im having a REALLY BIG cleanup

Check out AULRO. A heap more landy specific knowledge on there, especially in regards to the old series beasts and restoring them. A lot of the users are members here but there's already heaps of info available on there.

It sounds like the layshaft. They were a problem on 2As especially if you fitted a bigger motor or bigger tyres, (I fitted both). Like the others said try the AULRO forum, might even find a gearbox for sale.
