So in the market for a hoist.
Have 3 phase / high roof so chasing a 2 post clear floor.
Want to lift 4x4 canters etc 3.0 size, my lc 76, and MX5's etc As well as Binghams roof top camper I guess!
I looked at a bendpak 4.5t today which looked fine - but new they are only $4400 and the guy still wants 3K in VGC and knocked back my $2600
What are my options?
New 'hello / herro china' or s/h molnar etc
Ideally under 3k
Dont want crap, needs to lift these 4x4 canter things and be wide.
Space is not a problem etc.
Want a safe hoist too. No point in saving a few $ and ending up with a squished Bru.
cheers bru

Re: Hoist me! Help please!
I would pay the extra coin to get a heshbon They are Australian made Australian steel not the cheap flexi steel coming out of china. From memory they are $4400 installed with full warranty. Talk to your Snap on guy or call 1800810581 Ask to speak to Dino or Ian Spinks about workshop equipment/hoists. Tell them that you are one of my 4x4 mates and that I told you to talk to them. (David Kempston the old Snap-on dealer from the Parramatta area) They may make it cheaper.
You really shouldn't skimp out on something that could cost you your life if it fails holding 4+ ton over your head.

Re: Hoist me! Help please!
Dont know a lot about them, but dont the "clear floor" hoists have a limited height? IE before Binghams tent gets squashed by the crossover?

Re: Hoist me! Help please!
Come on Bru, you already know the answer to this.
It's a hoist not a socket set. If you can't afford a GOOD quality aussie/american/german/british made item, then buy the best second hand aussie/american/german/british made one you can afford then have it overhauled. When the chinese bullshite hoist made out of recycled cornflakes falls on you and kills you, or worse yet leaves you a crippled vegetable who will look after your wife?
edit: Didn't mean to sound like a carnt but don't want to hear about you getting killed either.

Re: Hoist me! Help please!
Thanks VW i'll look into those korean ones.
Vanbox - height of lift varies depending on height of car - but they normally lift higher than a plate floor, also plate floor sucks when you are by yourself and are trying to get a big car over the hump. Clear floor means I can put my 20mm steel plate on a trolley wheel it over and have the buggy chassis on it for suspension design.
rc31 - good points, but I have looked at the bendpak and it looks good to me. Its chinese but all the formerly US made bendpak ones are

Being a lifting device aren't they required to have a safety factor of 7

Aren't heshbon made in Korea and imported???
And - what is the failure rate of hoists that are serviced correctly and not overloaded. Extremely small I would think.

I understand all that. If your talking about lifting the trucks we were talking about once, they are taller so cannot be lifted as high. If you (and Im sure its possible) can extend the crossover we (I mean you ) win. Cut a trench in that beautiful new slab and recess!
Re: Hoist me! Help please!
not easy to extend cross over, they have balance cables and hydro line running through them - also put way more load on the arms. Not really fussed on height as the ones we talking about will be new so wont need work - just suspension etc. As long as it reaches high enough to lift the bodies on / off
No way in fark am I touching that slab. Its like my first born child!!!
This is the on at the top of my list so far, $4400

The more I look into it the fewer round eye hoists there are, even brands like rotary are not made in the US for markets outside of the US

hes in brisbane, and the installation price was $500 so total was 3300ish
can't fault it, when I require a 2nd I will go for one of these again.
mine is single phase.

Re: Hoist me! Help please!
Thanks buddy,
I did think those looked good!
Are they worth getting installed - surely its just marking out and drilling the slab, lifting the poles and plumbing the cross over hydraulics, cables and power?
A mate of mine used a snatch block off the ceiling to lift them up.
cheers bru

If you can not get there in a 4wd its not worth looking at
Re: Hoist me! Help please!
We have had three Heshbons in our workshop for 11 years and Powerex for probably 5 years. Heshbons are awesome apart from the cables occasionally going out of adjustment and the circlips coming off the threads on the hoist pads....the Powerex is a piece of shit, steer clear. Never really liked Molnars personally, they are bit old school.

second that, same hoist, same supplier and ours gets used ALOT more than most would. It is a little slow on the lift and doesn't quite go high enough, that said I am 6'3 and have never seen a hoist that does.
The heaviest vehicle we have had is a 4.2 GU on 35's with front and rear bars, sliders etc on ours and it lifted it no problem, a mate has the same hoist and he can tell you that a 21 seat coaster is pushing the limits of the hoist, to me it seemed retarded to put the bus on there anyway.

Re: Hoist me! Help please!
I'll be honest and say no. But i work in china and frankly their business and craftsmanship ethic both galls and scares the living crap out of me. EVERYTHING about china is about price and NOTHING is about quality, or pride in your product or workmanship. So even when they build it to a standard set by a foreign designer/company, there's still that desire to cut corners, use substandard materials where possible blah blah blah.hokey wrote: have you heard of chinese hoists failing?
I mean i KNOW i can't avoid chinese products in oz, and i can live with that for non critical stuff. I just can't see myself wanting to stand under 3 tonnes of steel held up by a cable made in that farked up shitehole of a country.
Edit: In fairness, if after several years one of the ones mentioned by bru is still going strong then i'll consider it. But i'd want to know how all the components are faring and what kind of maintenance it needed compared to a locally made one. Of course if i was that worried i could also just put a couple of 100 x 100 x 5 steel jambs under the arms each time i lifted.

Re: Hoist me! Help please!
Well just got a Bendpak 4.5t .
Having it installed on Monday.
Thanks for the help guys,
The original lead I had came through and everyone is happy!
As for Heshbon - they still haven't answered my emails, so missed out on an interest customer.
I didn't have time to call them so didn't try, and it was a little more $ then I wanted to spend at this stage

Re: Hoist me! Help please!
looks the shiz dude. Where did you purchase through? who is the australian dealer?
http://www.populationparty.org.au/
Re: Hoist me! Help please!
Hey mate the dealer is http://www.garageequipment.net.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I bought mine from a single man service shop that has closed down.
I think all I need is some of those optional u shaped pads so the buggy tube can't slip and I home and hosed.
I wanted to DIY it but I have no way of getting a fork to his site and mine doesn't have a driveway so I figured it would be 4x4 tilt tray hire, or several trips with a hire car trailer. Figured for the extra $300 over what it would cost me I can have it installed / serviced / checked.
Its still not a round eye hoist, but has,
"Each location follows strict guidelines as outlined by ISO-9000, further supporting our position as a premier global manufacturer. At BendPak, we ensure that our offshore manufacturing is no different in approach, standards, quality, inspection or packaging from our domestic production. These facilities are audited year round and undergo systematic evaluation of documented quality programs such as TUV, ANSI/ALI ALCTV, CSA, UL and AS/NZS 1418.9. The programs themselves are audited quarterly, regardless of the facility location, to ensure continued compliance with all applicable standards."
Cheers Bru

Re: Hoist me! Help please!
Fark they are heavy. Moved the farker today! all happening!
Bolted the centre just shy of 5m from the door.
Installer said it is lucky to have lifted 30 cars
Bru has a hoist
So what do people use to stop hangers on from using the hoist as a long term car park?
I know from what others have told me that guys from primary school that you have never even spoken too will come out of the woodwork and suddenly be your best friend ha ha.
Baseball bat?
HCl in a 200l vat above with a timer and solenoid valve?
Big stick?
Charge demurrage?
No carton no lift?
2 Day rule?
Ha ha,
We will see!

Ha ha this is true!!!
Dave gets long term use not just IOU!
Without Daves efforts there would be no shed - or hoist.
Edit: Dave when the power is in I'll let you know, locked in Eddie
Well there is no Farking spiders here......
Install finished this morning, serviced, cables lubed, and running off a 40m extension lead - until I get the trench dug and power installed!
Anyone needing hydraulic work on the coast call Stewart from Hydralift.
I could not reccommend him more highly. Cheers mate!!!
