Lost dash gauges GQ CoilCab '95'

Post by Wozza244 »

Wondering if anyone can shed any light on where to start searching to fix this problem. I checked the fuse box but theres nothing there saying anything about dash instruments/panel.
I still have oil pressure, dash lumination and fuel gauge, but speedo, reverse lights, tacho, voltage, oil/brake warning lights, glow light and temp gauges are all out.

Havnt had the same problem but , you have to check fuses with a test light, connect earth lead to a good earth and probe each side of every fuse making sure they are intact also check fusable links coming off the positive battery down to the main wiring harness ( they are prone to getting all coroded form stray battery acid ) note some fuses wont light up due to circuit not switched on ie headlights - unlikly to be a dash fault due to the reverse lights not working ... good luck

One minute it was all good, i turned the car off and then 5 min later i started it everything was gone.
The odometer and trip meter has stopped also, it seems strange.

Ok i learned a $500 lesson today, and im pretty pist off!!

The problem was a 10A fuse in the kick panel was blown. I checked all the fuses by eye when it happened, i should have used a test light instead as it was very hard to visibly see the breakage.

Secondly, the mechanic i took it to had a lend of me, he said my alternator was no good. Snakey bastard, because the fuse that was blown normally allows current to the alternator to 'excite it' and make it charge. So when i saw it wasnt charging i figured it was blown.

He told me mine was buggered and the parts were hard to get, and just in case he couldnt get the parts, he also ordered me a new alternator just in case the parts didnt show, to make me feel like he was doing me a favour.

Now if you ask me, the parts are still sitting at his workshop, ready to rebuild my old alternator the moment i walked out. Na ahh, i told him i wanted it back!! He even tried telling me parts were hard to find and it will end up a paper weight!!!

The hide of some people is amazing, he needs a good old fashioned beat down.
