Hey guys, I have recently picked up a HiLux with a 1979 model cab on it and the dash is rooted. Just noticed a dash from an LN65 for sale on this board, and was wondering if this would come close to fitting my cab? It does look different, but if there isnt much in it size wise, it could make for something a little differnt. I've only owned an ln106 Lux before so I'm unsure of these older models. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Evan

Re: 1979 HiLux dash
Go and measure up your dash Ev.
A-pillar to A-pillar, and then P.S. A-pillar to centre of dash(where the instrument cluster starts).
Then compare that to the numbers I gave you.

Check out this link on Marlin Crawler forum.
Not a lot of pictures, but possible.

It's a gen 1 ( early lux ) with a 2nd gen dash. If you do it take heaps of pictures of what you do.
Or maybe do something like this

Re: 1979 HiLux dash
I have a 83 Lux and I want to fit a later dash.
Roughyl ran a tape across my dash and an RN86 (2WD version of 105/6) and overall width seemed pretty well spot on, close enough I'll measure properly when I get a chance.
Now I know the entire dash unbolts and the steel frame isnt welded in, I think I know what I'll be doing.

The old Luxy was fun, but with a young family comes great responsibility.
So I swapped it for a 60. Should be able to take the whole mob camping, plus I got an extra gear, 2 less cylinders and A/C.

Re: 1979 HiLux dash
its a lot of work all custom mounts etc
the ln65 dash has lots of plastic components and is a lot more complex
also more fragile
personally i would just look for a good dash
plenty around really 2wd ones are ok

Re: 1979 HiLux dash
Wish I could have found a good 40 Series Hilux dash when I was trying to find one. Looked at about a dozen 2WD ones locally and couldnt find a good top, and the only one with a decent radio surround was a complete running vehicle.
Also mounting a half decent radio in an early is hard due to the position.
I'd go for an 85/86/105/106/111 dahs personally, or even a 147/167 if you could find one for good money, but then you'd need to convert the speedo to electronic.
