Snorkel installation - Townsville?

Post by TransplantCanuck »

So we're doing a trip to Cape York next week (leaving Saturday), and unfortunately I decided at the last minute that I wanted to get a snorkel installed before we left. I've phoned all the usual places (ARB, TJM, Opposite Lock) in Townsville, but none can do the installation before next week. TJM in Cairns was also booked out.

Any other ideas? Would I be crazy to do the Cape without a snorkel? Any board members in Townsville with the necessary skills and equipment (and time) to do a snorkel install? I'm usually pretty hands-on with mechanical stuff, but the idea of drilling holes in body panels is a little outside my comfort zone.

Fitting a snorkle is easy, Safari kit has a easy to follow instructions and a template which is easy to use aswell.

All i can say is take your time to drilling the holles, especaly the big hole saw..

What vehicle?

2000 Hilux SR5 (KZN165R).

I've read other snorkel installation walk-throughs that say that the templates are often misaligned. Would some place like Bunnings have the necessary holesaw?

From memory that model is easy to do,

I have fitted 100's of snorkles safari, nissan and airtec and I have never had a problem with a template not lining up. You just need to take your time and line it up.

The last hole saw I got was from Trade tools, Bunnings might have them, I haven't really look to tell you the truth.

But like I said as long as you ready the instuctions you can't really go wrong.

When we had a new fitter do there first snorkle we made them sit down and read the instuctions a few times to understand them and sink in a bit before cutting into someones car. It wouldn't hirt to do this if you fit it your self.

Rog does bloody good work. He would be my first choice.

I have seen him fit several over the years.

Thanks, bru. I phoned up Roger this morning and he'll be installing the snorkel tomorrow.
