no
its not a multivalve to start with
and is possibly the early model still depending on the month of manufacture the rims may be 15's bit of a give away there on the brakes.
its a dx,base model
buy a petrol gxl and put it on gas with the change.... and still go on a holiday with whats left

Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
lol @ the rands comparing the price of equivalent petrols, this is a diesel 80 series and diesel equivalents of petrol counterparts can command over twice the price, regardless this isnt about petrol vs diesel so lets not go there. Very good kms for its age, would sell very quickly if he advertised it at 10, yes its a good deal people are always chasing diesel 80s, dont worry so much about being the early model 15" wheels are a good thing and my little brakes still lock up my 35s and pull the 3T up very quickly. Being HZ powered means no BEB problems that were associated with early factory TDs so nothing to really worry about. That would sell for 10 without a drama so if you get it for 9 good work, looks clean and tidy have some mechanical checks done and go for it.
TD 80 Series - Custom barwork, E locked, 35" MTR's, Lifted, Fox Shocks. Good times.
Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
NO WAY!!! People are only compairing the petrols because your get a GXL with all the bells and whistles. Id offer 6-7k. There are a few around that cant even sell for 9k. I got my td for 13.
Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
Hey Mick, don't know about the value of diesels, but I searched carsales for, 80 series, manual, diesel, 90-98, up to $15,000. There are 14 results, all are over $10k. If the condition is good, interior etc, this might be a good buy.De-lux wrote:Hi all,

Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
hmm... well its not looking good for getting it for $9k. The bloke is standing firm on $10k (on a side note, am I the only one that gets a little irritated when people don't negotiate on price!?). I only really have $8,000 at the moment and have been given "special" permission from the boss to "borrow" $1000 from our wedding fund to get this truck. I think $2000 will be pushing the relationship..
I was considering getting it inspected and using the faults that they will inherently find as a method to reduce the price. Thoughts team?

Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
Cars pretty much only ever go down in value, so unless its a steal and you need it now, in a year when you have save up to 10k you will get the same or a better car for less. Bargains always pop up eventually if your patient.De-lux wrote:hmm... well its not looking good for getting it for $9k. And I hate it when people won't negotiate but at the same time if he knows whats it's worth and is confident or not in a hurry why would he?

Well we sort of do need a car now... So this one seems to be a pretty sweet deal. I will call again today and see if I can negotiate something...

Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
Not a bad deal at all, for a diesel and the amount of km's on it. Tidy.
If it's any help though I paid 13k for mine over 7 years ago, 93 pov pack with 210,000km, garaged it's life. But that was a steal back then, the average price was 15-20k from memory.
Maybe I'm biast but I like the dx, you can always add bells and whistles later, reliability is the most important thing.

Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
So after spending the last 24 hours scouring the internet for info, comparisons etc, it would seem that this 80 series is a pretty good buy.
Looks like I'll be cashing in some of my shares to get me the $10,000.

Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
Keep looking, its a pov pack 1HZ, nothing to write home about. It's got a basic bar, small wheels and suspension height looks pretty standard.
There was an EOI for a highly modified petrol gxl with similar mms, 96 model, 37s, lift, bar work, diff gears, lockers, crawler gears etc for 12.5k
1HZ is very slow and you would be saving about 2-3L per 100km but servicing costs are higher.
You'll find the right one with fruit in your budget, give it time

Have you guys missed this part? Find him a near stocker for the right price. Sure the others have all the fruit but unmolested and gently driven cruisers still command a hefty price tag.De-lux wrote: It will be used for daily driving and weekend touring / camping, and only very moderate offloading.
Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
yeah I don't want a superlift / copmagnet... I want 2" or 3" lift at most.
I should add that the 260,000kms on this truck are almost all highway driving between Moranbah and Brisbane - the owner is a builder and built houses for people working in the mines.
The main reason I'm so keen on this is mechanically it is in pristine condition. I don't want to be spending my spare time just keeping it on the road, and soaking all my coin into fuel bills.

Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
As you want a daily driver this would be pretty good. The petty's with 37's might be awesome when at some kind of 4wd park, but really who needs that stuff for a DD and touring rig? My HZJ80R GXL with 2" lift, Bilsteins and 33's went everywhere.
Chances are the highly modified vehicles have also been flogged through every creek/mud/sand etc and are probably going to have lots of ongoing issues.
Your other option would be to keep looking for a GXL with 1HZ but for $10k you'd be getting one with over 400,000km on it.
Drive it, see how it goes. If you like it then it has enough power, go for it. They use 12-13l/100km and the petrol uses 18-20. With higher servicing costs and fuel costs for the diesel that evens out, but when you are 500km down a rough offroad track and you see a petrol 80 on the side of the road with 4 jerry cans doing a refuel the diesel comes into its own

Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
i recently sold a 94 model dx, tidy straight, but with 420000k for $7800
unregistered, so with 260000k, if you got it for under $9000 you would be doing well.

mick 2 yrs ago i sold my DX with 380K on it for 6500 i think.
i wouldnt pay 10k for that. but the KMs are fairly good.
keep an eye out and make some rude offers on them.
maybe 7k for that one.
heaps better then the jeep you were considering as a touring camping truck.
the 80 diesels are tops in my eyes.

Too late Twon. Yesterday I put a $500 deposit on this bad boy. I was having a tough time finding something equal - this one has had no less than $5,000 spent on it in the last year on things like a major service (done by Toyota) and heaps more.
Pick it up Tues next week after it gets a roady.

twon your a tight ass at the best of times with coin, but yeah if 80's are getting 7-10k i might have to buy another couple and wash them and re sell them
Mick i have a gxl interior if your interested

This model has a tacho so I'm guessing it's a DX model (not base model).
I will probably look at ripping out the front bench seat and putting in some regular seats and a centre console - so Ice - I might take you up on some of your offer soon

If it's been well maintanied you shoudl go for it. Looks like a clean simple truck that shouldn't give you too many dramas.

Re: What's this worth - 80 Series
Good buy if you ask me good 80s are only going up in value. Brought my fzj80r for 11.5 k 2 year ago dual fuel and 240 thou on the clock. My step brother was looking about a month ago and the only 80s he found under 10k were complete shitboxes full of rust. Good 80s petrol or diesel in nsw are going for between 12 and 16k atm. Unless you want to buy something with 400000+km on it that's more rust than metal its a steal.
93 RV, 5 in tough dog lift, dobinsons shocks and coils, PA, dual fuel, many many oil leaks and a ton of character.
