Deep Cycle - Best number of Amp Hrs per $$ ??
finally moving to this deep cycle caper (having run 2 starter batteries for a long time) and have researched but not quite found what i want!
Basically i want it to run 2 fridges for as long as possible.
Options then being cheap mid rang and expensive batteries but does this correlate directly to amp hrs etc?????
Brands amp hrs and approx prices would be helpful also.
Thanks
Bingham

I got an Interstate brand off of our battery supplier. Was $135+gst and is 100amp/hr. Not too sure how they are for quality, supplier told me they haven't had any returns in the 18 months they have been selling them. Ran my ARB 47ltr fridge from when I turned the cruiser off at Tuff Truck, till I left on Sunday no worries. Battery also has M8 bolt and normal terminals.
Happy to get them for Outers people if they want, supplier is out of stock at the moment that's all.

I ended up buying a 'Supreme' brand supposedly american build battery that is distributed by century. Was 110 or 115 amp hr which i told is the max i can get in the Std battery tray hold for patrol. Was $260 discounted. Could have got a Trojan brand similar with discounted price $285. More than i wanted to spend but as i said to him this better work or i will be back and back and back to annoy them

is it an AGM? or just a lead acid?if its an AGM you need to heat shield it if its in your engine bay.

Whats the best dual battery system to run a glassmat and lead acid? Been told they fight each other and have seen a few die prematurely. Can you get away with something basic or better off with a marine or similar?

Batteries don't "fight" each other.rowenb wrote:Whats the best dual battery system to run a glassmat and lead acid? Been told they fight each other and have seen a few die prematurely. Can you get away with something basic or better off with a marine or similar?
For 12V systems, where 12V batteries are connected in parallel, you can generally run standard lead acid batteries and AGM (glass mat) or sealed lead acid / gel cell batteries in parallel with little trouble.
Some sealed / gel cell batteries don't like large charge currents, so you may need to be careful with system configuration. If the sealed battery is the auxiliary, with some cabling / switching elements in between, it's unlikely that an alternator system will create an excessive charge current. Unlikely, but not impossible.
If the vehicle is modern, with a "calcium" battery, it may have a higher charge voltage than traditional lead acid / sealed / AGM batteries can handle. My brother's Senator typically runs around 15V (according to the dashboard gauge). This would cook the batteries in my 4wd - I'm not sure what the answer would be in this situation.
Re: Deep Cycle - Best number of Amp Hrs per $$ ??
Hi Bingham, you can parallel any 12v battery type with any other 12v type battery but as Scott posted, the one thing to consider is the charge voltage levels.
The easiest way around this problem is to fit something like Supercharge Allrounders.
Allrounders are calcium/Calcium batteries and as such will tolerate 15v charging voltages and the manufacturers recommend a monthly 16v boost or equalising charge to keep them in optimum state of charge.

Who stocks supercharge batteries? Anyone know if they sell direct to the public, found their website and they are just down the road from me.

What are the dimensions as I'll be limited in size when I put the extra battery tray in
