ok outers i have a stumper for u. My mate has a 84 hilux, one minute it runs like a gem, the next minute, its backfiring and running like a dog. Stopping then starting the thing again seerms to help, so i am leaning toward a coil, who's got some ideas.

Could be fuel filter too, partial blockage.

because we can't see the car and are disadvantage what have you done to diagnose the problem?

sorry i should have went further into it, we replaced the fuel filter as a given, tested the pump for flow, all good. Timing is right, air filter all good.Checked all vacuum hose's, the only thing we did before it started playing up was put a new radiator in, but i don't see that changing anything. Thought we might have knocked a vacuum hose off but we checked them all.

haven't seen any problems with the cooling system as yet, no pressurising from blown head gasket if thasts what you mean

Is it a points distributor or electronic? Check/replace points and make sure they are gapped correctly. Replace condensor too if you don't know how old it is.

both look brand new, but that was something i was going to look at.
