2 or 3 inch for my 80
just after a bit of advice on lift options for my 80.its a 97 standard with stock suspension and its got fibreglass flares.its got an arb winch bar with a winch so the front sags a fair bit,it sits about 40mm lower than the bak.i am probly looking at 33s in reguards to tyres as im planning a trip up north early next year but i also want a some what capable truck in the bush aswell.
iv also heard that standards sit lower than gxls and saharas,but dont know if its true?so if anyones fitted a 2 or 3 inch lift to the model i have some info would be awsome,also pics would help me alot to see how they sit

I fitted a 3" Superior Engineering kit to mine, raised it 100mm from the sagged factory springs. It drives & handles great on and off the road. The shot is just a poser one not long after I fitted the kit earlier this year. Your best bet will be to talk to a decent shop who can work out the spring rate for the load in your cruiser.

Depends how much rough stuff you are going to do.
2" lift with lockers will get you a hell of a lot of places. without lockers 3" will probably be a better option
the higher you lift it, the more complications you will face.

well that was another reason i was leaning more towards the 2'',but is there really great deal more to do to get that extra bit of height?

Gotta keep in mind too that lift will sag so with 2 inch you will end I up with maybe an inch in front. If I hadn't of.brought mine with the lift already id go 3 inch with either 33's or 35's with a guard chop. As for brand not all are equal I have 5inch lift in mine (sagged to 4inch) with tough dog lift kit with dobinsons springs and shocks and it out handles dads 75 series stocker.

My swaybars just missing I personally think their a waste of time on a truck as heavy as the cruisers but yes either part time it or get a double cardan front tailshaft. You will also probably have to do the castor angles on the diffs. Both parttime kit and new shaft cost about the same I think when I part timed mine it was 50 bucks more for the part time kit including hubs.

This might depend on where you got your kit from. You do not have to convert it to part time. Mine drives as smooth with the lift as it did beforehand. How long has yours been in for as it will slowly ruin the front shaft it wont just start stuffing up is still check the uni angles to make sure they are in acceptable limits. That said castor correction will play a big role in that. Maybe some kits aren't sold with castor correction hence bad tailshaft angle.phippsy wrote:This might depend on where you got your kit from. Fitted for at least 18 months now, kit came with castor correction bushes that I made sure I took a lot of care fitting correctly and we have done a lot of highway klm's.

I'm looking at buying an 80 soon and I want to put a 3" flexy coil kit from Suspension Stuff but the one I'm really keen on already has a tjm 2". So I'll probably see how the 2inch goes before I go spending $1300

Spend the money on barwork / lockers / tyres. Much better option 1 inch isn't all that much 1300 will get you a set of 35s will raise car 2 inch over stock were it counts (under diff). yea i got castors done at the same time and you would be better off converting it to part time as the double cardinal isnt designed to run all the time they flog out preety quick. i extended my sawy bars for the same reason and allso ive heard of story's of people not getting insurance cus thay didnt have sawy bars in.

sounds like the 2'' is the way to go then,but with the 33s being 12.5'' wide will they scrub on the flares cos they look like they sit a bit lower than the original wheel arches on the front quarter panels?

if you are using a standard offset rim, it should be OK any rubbing would be minor. If you have rims with more offset, you will probably have problems

If your worried about clearance 60 series offset rims will do the trick they're only about 400 for 4 sunrasias

hi guys,
i am getting ready to do a 3" lift in my 80 in december as my 2" is badly sagged.
i have been recommended the dobinson coil & shocks with a medium load rating for the rear and a little firmer for the front as I will be putting on a winch and xrox bar later on, as well as castor correction, extended brake lines, sway bar extensions and installation for $1800
Does this sound ok or is it a bit exxy?
I have to replace the suspension anyway so the 3" for me is the way to go for only a little more expense
