duramax into 100 series

Hi all just wondering if anybody knows if there is a conversion kit available for duramax and alison gearbox that would suit a 100 series .

I'd have to say that it's going to be pretty unlikely.

Have you already got the duramax and allison? i'm after a late model allison if i can get it for the right price.

where are you sourcing it from ? price?

I am just curious to know if this has been done before . I know of a few chevs in the u.s that have been converted but havent heard of this being done to a landcruiser .I imagine it wouldnt be an easy conversion electronically

HeathGU was looking at doing a transfer case adapter, not a complete bolt in solution. I believe killalux? has done standalone wiring looms for these engines before, too.

A transfer case adapter for the landcruisers is in the R&D stage at the moment.
wiring for the duramax / allison is no worries, have that all sorted. Just have to sort interfacing it into the 100. Which will hopefully have sorted by end of year.

WHAT 100series would be the prefered vehicle of choice.

I was thinking a 105hjz or similar. What diff ratio do they run stock? Any other info you guys could tell me would be appreciated.

Or if anyone knows of a blown engined one let me know. I want to purchase one very soon to develop the kit before christmas.

The HZJ vs (HDJ or FZJ) has the weaker box so I guess replacing that box with the allison would make it attractive to some people. Aren't the conversions around the 40k mark though? I think if your spending that much on a car, you bought the wrong car or have too much money.

Yes Heath I gathered you were asking which would be most popular for you to develop the kit for.

Whether it be the HZJ which have the 1hz and the smaller gearbox both of which are a bit light duty for the cruiser when touring and towing.

Vs.

The FZJ (petrol solid axle) UZJ (petrol ifs) or the HDJ (factory TD ifs) which are stronger to start with

I'm not sure who your target market would be... Maybe do a poll.

Was I around the money at 40k Drive in Drive out with a/c pwr steer etc.

Hey scanas your close, but thats on a nissan gu.

Have not done a 100 myself so dont know what your looking at.

What side is the diff on for the IFS landcruiser. Is it different then the solids?

I would think the solid axle fronts would be the most popular model for conversions because they didnt offer a really good motor for them. All the good motors are in the ifs models if i remember correctly. Also most off road tourers would prefer the solid i think anyway.

Does this mean by the stand alone wiring that killalux is doing for these engines that they could be fitted to anything? Does that include allison trans control as well? What other trans options are there for these engines besides the allison?

Heath will correct me if i'm wrong but here goes

The Duramax runs the normal GM/chev bellhousing pattern so that's a good start. In the states they had a manual option for a while using a ZF6 gearbox, but for the last few years there has been no manual option.

There have been true " stand alone " wiring kits in the states for these for a while but if i recall correctly from what i've seen, if your engine came with an auto then it's problematic to get it to run without an auto and auto control module. or summat like that. There are also a few kits available in the states for bellhousing pattern coversions to SAE#2 for those of us wanting to run an eaton-fuller-roadranger style box. This is what i was looking at if i didn't run the allison, as i'm wanting some decent engine braking capacity for this thing. I was looking at running either a RT-6610/13 or a RTO-6610/13.

7.3 is the powerstroke motor. They've been considered problematic and expensive to repair by more than a few of the people i've been reading on the american big truck forums. I believe they helped to pioneer the use of "at the head" fuel metering that has led to the use of high pressure common rail diesels we currently have. Unfortunately they went about it using HEUI injectors which use oil pressure to fire instead of the electrically fired injectors commonplace today. Seems even dyed in the wool ford fans are pulling them out to replace with either dodge Cummins 6BTA's or the Duramaxes.

I've also found that while the american trucks are massive on the outside with all the comparable weight/fuel consumption that comes with that, it seems like they're not as economical with that available space in the cabs like the japs are. Where a jap truck fits everything needed in a dash into a tiny space the yank trucks have HEEEEUUUUUGE dashes that leave the cab with no more room than a normal jap fourby.

F trucks apparently are also prone to death wobbles in the front end (google f truck death wobble) even when they're in top nick. But i'm not sure if it's only 2wd or 4wd vehicles.

If i've got any of this wrong i'm happy to be corrected, but most of it is gleaned off the american fullsize truck forums.

The cruiser will be either 4.1 or 4.3 ratio diffs, Not exaxtly sure which model had what ratio.

Yes the standalone harness I do means the engine can be fitted to anything, And yes it includes allison transmission control, Aswell as cruise control and tiptronic mode.

I do a few variations of the standalone harness, A specific GU patrol loom, or a universal style loom, And I guess I will be doing a 100series loom soon.

duramax is a chev motor. Will be a cold day in hell that ford decides to use a chev engine in thier trucks :)

a powerstroke is Ford's high performance diesel, but is an older design and nowhere near as good.

Actually a power stroke is now a 6.4 common rail, r compound turbo engine. In a std vehicle, the duramax and power stroke are pretty close to each other, just that a duramax seems to be more popular especially with performance parts.

duramax is a family name given to the engines made by DMAX (the partnership between isuzu and gm) chev make poo diesels the 6.6 replaced the 6.5 chev. ford powerstrokes are an international 444 truck engine the early 1s were idi the later were di, nothing wrong with em bar a couple little things you need to do to make them better, but you need to throw mega $$$$ at them to get near a qsb5.9/6.7 cummins or dmax, the 6.4 is no more and have made their own 6.7cr same capacity as the new 6.7 cummins.
