Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
nice work, looks better than factory fit
Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
Unfortunately torque at the wheels by itself isn't of any use. Simply going to a lower gear gives you more torque at the wheels. If you had speed to match that reading then wheel power can be calculated from it.300WinMag wrote:Is the HP and torque calculated at the crankshaft or wheels.
I was geting 920ftlb @wheels 33", with 25psi @ manifold,75cc fuel,20:1 AFR, Dyno dynamics dyno calibrated monthly.

That's 116kw to the ground.300WinMag wrote:Ok peek torque at 102km/hr 33" tyres 4:11 diff

Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
How did you calculate that? The dyno says 121kw@ wheels.

Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
At peak torque you have 116kw to the ground. The 121kw will be at peak power.300WinMag wrote:How did you calculate that? The dyno says 121kw@ wheels.
Power = force x velocity.
Force = 920lb which converts to 4094N.
Velocity = 102 km/h which converts to 28.3 metres per second.
4094 x 28.3 = 115,996 watts (116 kW).

Couldnt tell you how many cc's sorry. The car came to us with the pump already done and we have not touched the tune on it.
With the old setup it was about 14:1 full load @ 28psi. Now running 16:1 @ 28psi.
Really needs another 10psi or so into it to get the power really cranking. With the run we did at 32psi the afr had leaned off to 18.5:1.
Peak egt is 700d in the manifold.
lo how this has turned in to an argument about dyno's..??
NORTHSIDE: is that 700 degreese at manifold like u said? as i can only see a probe way down the botton of the dump pipe in the pics...?
also why didnt you leave it at 18.5:1? thats not a bad mixture at all.. and with that kind of boost in there it would have just been keeping things cool for you (spesh if the 700 deg was in the dump pipe @ 16:1 then it sounds like it should stay on 18:1 maybe?)

Doesn't appear to be any pyro in the manifold does there. MAybe it was done with an infra red gun???MOO_R32 wrote:Northside 4x4 wrote:

Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
Yes in the manifold. You cannot see the probe in those pics as it was not yet fitted in the original shots of the turbo on the bench and it is in #6 port.
The one in the dump pipe is only for his gauge in the car. Which as it is quite low only just ticks over 400deg flat out.
The reason it was left where it was is because thats what the customer requested.
Over what he had with the 28/76 when it came in though
1900rpm was 80hp, now 90hp
2200rpm was 135hp, now 190hp
2500rpm was 190hp, now 230hp
3400rpm was 195hp, now 260hp

Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
was his old setup a 2876 with the 4" housing or a machined out disco 3" housing over the 76mm wheel? just wondering cos the latter is what i have and it goes pretty hard. maybe im upgrading to the gtx if its a big step up again?
Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
Northside how much for this set up $$.
Would a twin turbo setup be better in terms of more responsive and more efficient.
Kiwi Bacon, my bad not thinking straight at the time.

The 2876 was just the std disco housing.fumduk3 wrote:was his old setup a 2876 with the 4" housing or a machined out disco 3" housing over the 76mm wheel? just wondering cos the latter is what i have and it goes pretty hard. maybe im upgrading to the gtx if its a big step up again?
There is alot to be had stepping up to the X30. Yes it has a smaller comp wheel but the design of it is far superior to the old style cast wheels.
Probably the best thing is that it spools up so much quicker than the 2876. Compared to the old setup I think we killed it by something like 20-30kw from 1000 through to 2400rpm.
300 - Twins could be quicker in spooling up. A single right in the middle of its comp map will generally be more efficient.
I have considered it but when weighing the benefits they just dont appeal to me under these kind of conditions.
Factoring the cost into it generally points more towards a good single as well.
As for pricing well, its not as cheap as other options. You can shoot me an email or call me with the details of the car and I could work something out as the setups I do are very vehicle specific with the X series turbo's.
Need to know the use of the car, target power level, required spoolup rpm, other modifications etc.. as many details as you can give me basically.

Thanks Northside, will wait till I finish my engine build and see whats left in the budget.
What life expectancy do you expect out of the engine with this set up?

Depends how hard you push it I guess. The customers last few cars have all been upwards of 250,000km's with similar boost and fuel so I assume no difference this time.300WinMag wrote:Thanks Northside, will wait till I finish my engine build and see whats left in the budget.

If your using the std exhaust manifold, there is some good benefits to be had in porting them out while its off the car.
Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
gudday, I currently run the GT3071R and may have the opportunity to change turbos out soon (brothers GT2871 died). the vehicle has had most mods done to run higher boost/fuel and goes like a rocket but the 71 comp wheel is abit laggy down low.Northside 4x4 wrote:The 2876 was just the std disco housing.fumduk3 wrote:was his old setup a 2876 with the 4" housing or a machined out disco 3" housing over the 76mm wheel? just wondering cos the latter is what i have and it goes pretty hard. maybe im upgrading to the gtx if its a big step up again?

my question is, what is the difference in comp wheel size to the one I have? (sorry didn't see it in description)
will drop you all the engine specs later if required.

Comp wheel is the same size but is cnc machined out of billet alloy instead of cast.garth wrote:gudday, I currently run the GT3071R and may have the opportunity to change turbos out soon (brothers GT2871 died). the vehicle has had most mods done to run higher boost/fuel and goes like a rocket but the 71 comp wheel is abit laggy down low.Northside 4x4 wrote:The 2876 was just the std disco housing.fumduk3 wrote:was his old setup a 2876 with the 4" housing or a machined out disco 3" housing over the 76mm wheel? just wondering cos the latter is what i have and it goes pretty hard. maybe im upgrading to the gtx if its a big step up again?

Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
mate have you done any more gtx setups? would 1 clear a factory manifold or not(maybe why you used a new 1)?
Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
Yeah done a couple. Will post up a few more dyno graphs when I get the timefumduk3 wrote:mate have you done any more gtx setups? would 1 clear a factory manifold or not(maybe why you used a new 1)?
That is a factory manifold that is used on that setup. Plenty of clearance.
Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
the 270 odd hp thats at the wheels isnt it ?
Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
Yeah at the wheels.fumduk3 wrote:the 270 odd hp thats at the wheels isnt it ?
Finished another one last night which made 284hp at the wheels to, with 33" tyres.
Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
what intercooler are you/the customer running on it? custom plenum also? do you keep the dropping resistor in the custom inlets?
Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
Fumduk3 - Im not sure what you mean by resistor?
But pics below of the manifold on the new one.
Intercooler is a PWR front mount not sure of exact size but its big.
Some pics of the latest gtx30 setup.

Re: New Turbo Tech anyone? GTX30 Pics :D
theres a reisistor at the rear of my manifold which drops the secondary glow voltage down from 12v
what are the 2 diff systems like lag wise -big front mount lot more piping 3" vs w2a, just asking cos same turbo, maybe similar boost/fuel might help me decide on my intercooler setup thanks

Im not farmiliar with the resistor your refering to, but anything thats not directly intergrated with the manifold is retained.fumduk3 wrote:theres a reisistor at the rear of my manifold which drops the secondary glow voltage down from 12v

The only thing I know of thats actually in the manifold is the heater rod, which gets removed on this setup.
The turbo spool point is the same with Air or Water coolers, the only difference you will feel is the on/off/on throttle response.
I would say and this is only my estimate on it, probably about another .5-1second of time to come back onto boost once your off boost with the front mount kit.
So it is definitely noticeable.
