Headlight Issue
Ok 84 lux.
Headlights and indicators etc work fine.
The Highbeam works fine when you flick the stalk towards you to flash the lights. But when you flick the stalk away from you to turn the highbeams on every 5th time or so the lights stay off completely. The Blue highbeam light on the dash stays on but no light at the headlights...
It doesnt happen everytime, so me thinks its the switch.......
any ideas?

probably switch. if you are feeling keen, pull switch out and give it a clean (wipe with metho on a rag etc.) and put all back together. should fix the problem - this is what i did when mine played up.
no actual electrical knowledge needed here, just take apart cover around steering column, then switch stalk. from memory you need to unclick couple of electrical connectors, but they are different from each other so easy to put back together.

Could be the switch but i'd be checking the relay first(easier to swap over), seeing as the high beam light on the dash comes on but no headlights, it would seem that the switch was ok? otherwise the highbeam light wouldn't come on either. May have dirty contactors in the relay, seeing as it is under the bonnet and likely to get mud and water on it?

Anyone know where the relay lives for the headlights?

open the bonnet and stick your head in, get an assistant to flick the lights high/low and you will hear the relay clicking. quickest and easiest way to track it down.
I reckon the relay is probably ok and you just have a dirty connector or bad earth on the relay.

Clean the contacts in the switch. My worklux does the same thing every so often. Pull the switch and blast it with Contact cleaner and all is good.
The high beam light still operates because it uses backfed current from low beam to operate. Neg switching headlamps!!!!!

thats right . high beam indicator light comes on because:
1. lights are on
and 2. low beams aren't.
ah ha, so i was right !!!!
(maybe anyway )
It's sorta hard to explain!!! Its got to do with grounding the ind light when on high beam, through the low beam filerment. When on low beam there is a pos supply on both sides of the ind light, so it goes off.
