The wait is over! And so is day one of the 2011 Tigerz11 Cliffhanger! Event managers Rudi and Hobzee promised an event to satisfy both spectators and competitors and they delivered with long stages and plenty of action. Stage one was a high speed sandy creek race against the clock with a compulsory tyre change and a winch wall requiring ground anchors. The first to grab the bull by the horns was Mick Magher and Daniel Hose taking the win. Event favourites Greg Scanlon and Liam Nunns found themselves winching unnecessarily with a poor line selection leaving them bogged to the axels in a soggy creek bed. Patrolapart Rookies Guy Steuart and Guy Riechardt started strong with an equal second place result with Hiline 4wd’s Andrew Curry and Jarrod Winch. The scores are tight with plenty of tied results. It’s a long week and anything could happen. Futher scores will be posted tomorrow including the results from Sunday nights Motokhana. It Raining now which is great for the dust but could make conditions exciting for the competitors in Mondays high speed stages. 2011 Tigerz11 Cliffhanger update

Three stages today and the terrain is starting to separate the men from the boys. After some unexpected results from Sunday with front markers making some costly mistakes they are on their way back in the technical terrain. Dave Cameron climbed the inverted rock face on stage 3 in a fraction over three minutes. Most of the field completed the extreme course except for a few including Mick Magher and Daniel Hose after breaking 4 axles simultaneously leaving them stranded on the course. A passing 7 foot python stopped to check out the action as well before being removed by the resident snake tamer.
Stage four was a navigation stage and simply a matter of finding the points and returning to the start line in time. While the navigation can be technical the driving is not as difficult so there was no explanation as to why so many didn’t make it back in time resulting in a DNF.
Stage five was another course filled with rock ledges. Smooth driving and winching was the key. Barry Smethurst set a good time early on and the Pup ripped his anchor point clean out of the ground. Dave Cameron, Damien Lynch and Greg Scanlon all drove this stage with Dave Cameron winning the stage.

2011 Tigerz11 Cliffhanger update

Thursday 7th July

It has been a busy couple of days at Tambua Station. There was only two stages yesterday but that was all that was needed to knock a couple of competitors out of the competition. James Tyrell and Matthew Sparkes where climbing the ladder after a near faultless result in Tuesdays Night Nav. Then they backed it up on Wednesday with two respectable results placing them 5th outright. But as they rolled into camp Wednesday night the rumble of an overworked turbo would sideline them for the rest of the event. Griffith Wayde and Iain Parnaby where also sidelined with fuel issues. Road Runner Racing’s Barry and Jim had clawed there way back into 5th after a rough start to the week and placed well in todays high speed stages and winch wall. Mick Magher and Daniel Hose are also placing well but a simple mistake involving a seat belt in the last stage of today cost them dearly with a DNF result. Dave Cameron and Moose are going well and were sitting in second place on Wednesday night. They where doing well today until the Cliffhanger stage caught them out also, there ground anchor would not hold and left them perched on the wall also with a DNF result.
Front runners Greg Scanlon and Liam Nunns are still going strong but not without there issues, they are going though about 20lt of auto trans fluid a day. The results are not out for today yet but it will be interesting to see who is in front for the final day tomorrow. Tonight’s stage is a winching stage up a rocky escarpment followed by two stages tomorrow including the infamous Cliffhanger Stage before presentation at the bowling club tomorrow night. Scores will be calculated tonight and posted on the Tigerz11 Cliffhanger Facebook page as soon as they are available
