Hzj75 with intercooler and FRP bonnet
Hi people I've got a 93 hzj75 ute with a denco turbo kit and I'm looking at intercooling it, I tossed up the idea of a denco water to air intercooler but now I'm thinking about fitting a air to air intercooler as there is less parts and less chance off anything failing. I like the look of the FRP bonnet with the inbuilt scoop but was wondering if anyone has fitted a intercooler under one of these bonnets and does the top of the intercooler need to be sealed between the intercooler and the bonnet? And what intercooler fits best under 1 of these bonnets?
Cheers Chris

Has anyone fitted one of these bonnets with a intercooler underneath it?

What sort of driving do you do. Air to air might not be the way to go. Air to water is very practical on cruisers. Heaps of really good reaults

Re: Hzj75 with intercooler and FRP bonnet
I use it for everything from slow 1st gear tight off road stuff to towing a camper and touring, what are peoples thoughts on the denco water to air intercooler kits? I'm happy with the turbo kit I got off them but have heard bad things about the water pumps in there intercooler kits not being reliable has anyone got any good or bad feedback?
Re: Hzj75 with intercooler and FRP bonnet
Front mount air cooling works best for me. plenty of posts on my rig and the setup is near 7 years old, with plenty of touring and playing k's
2H Intercooled = It really goes.

ok i'll step up
I run a PWR w2a intercooler and frankly i don't think they're all that. Yes it works to and extent but frankly i'd say a good a2a fmic would work better. the little pump that comes with some of these kits are a toy. get a good quality bosch or davis craig pump. I"m not sure what denco supply though.
Mine does cool the system some, but frankly i think the exchangers aren't as good as a FMIC, the only w2a i've seen that looks the goods is one that i saw a build on here, but the name escapes me right now. McInnes or something was his user name.
You're not going to be producing enough boost or heat at low crawling speeds which is where the w2a is supposedly best anyways

water to air intercoolers can work really well but................ the ones they are selling, ie the denco one is a bit of a dinky toy
i beleve you cannot beat a good sized front mount with sensible length plumbing and a fan on it
this way you dont get heat soak(read top mount) and you have large capacity with plenty of airflow for top end stuff
and the fan to keep the airflowing for low range work
before i put the fan on

I also do a bolt in water/air option using good quality components.
If you want I can put some pictures up.

Thanks for the replys, Id like to see some photos of the water to air kit along with a price, as far as a front mount air to air I really cant see how you could fit 1 in a 75 & still leave the grill in place, there really isn't much room there. And even getting the pipes to it would be a night mare. I know its been done but it must require a lot of cutting which I would prefer not to do.

You will have to contact me for pricing as it depends on the setup of the vehicle.cruiser075 wrote:Thanks for the replys, Id like to see some photos of the water to air kit along with a price, as far as a front mount air to air I really cant see how you could fit 1 in a 75 & still leave the grill in place, there really isn't much room there. Like you said it has been done. I have seen some guys retain their grille by spacing it forwards and going a bit choppy choppy to some of the bits on the back of it.cruiser075 wrote:Thanks for the replys, Id like to see some photos of the water to air kit along with a price, as far as a front mount air to air I really cant see how you could fit 1 in a 75 & still leave the grill in place, there really isn't much room there.
