80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
Hey guys, im converting my HDJ80 (1HD-T) from auto to manual,
does anyone know if the h151f box from behing the 1FZ is exactly the same as the h151f box from behind the 1HD-T?. i know the ratios are exactly the same but is the bellhousing and input count the same?.......ive also heard that the petrol box's are weaker than the turbo diesel box's ?. im tryin to keep it as close to factory as i can so i want to avoid using the r150 which i belive is the 1HZ box and the ratio's are different.
Please Help
cheers.

Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
i thought i read somewhere that all h151f boxes were interchangable with each other, however not sure about the auto models. im sure someone here has done the conversion before and can point you in a clearer direction

Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
Yes, they are. The transfers are the same from them aswell (only the pov packs are different). The drive shafts between auto and manual are different though (length wise).
Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
does any one knoe if the 80 series povo pack transfer could fit on the petrol gxl full time gearbox

Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
Petrol and diesel boxes in 80's are the same strength wise, it was when they went to the 100's that the NA diesel boxes were weaker.

Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
Na,
H150F = 21 splines = 1HZ.... 275mm clutch.... HF1A Transfer
H151F = 14 splines = 1HDT & Petrol.... 300mm clutch.... HF2A transfer
There is also a difference between transfer cases from 80 to 100 series. Ive run a 100 series transfer in mine, motor wirring plug and linkage arms are different though.
H151F plenty stronger... Bearing and syncro's = new box. Thats mostly all that goes wrong with them.

It was only the 100's that ran the H150f behind the 1hzzzzzzzz wasnt it?TheBigBoy wrote:Na,

Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
it was the R151f that was a smaller weaker box, it was run in the 100 series behind the 1hz. I reckon u will find the h150 and 151 are of the same strengths.
the ratios were different between the 1hzzzzz and the 1fz

Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
Hmm no one knows forsure. But according to toyota and the gearbox shops, the h151f is alot stronger than the h150f. Thats why its behind the V8, petrol and turbo diesels. I was looking for a gearbox upgrade when I rebuilt mine. But, they all said the h151f is a much stronger box and can fit a bigger clutch. Apart from syncro's and bearings. Not much goes wrong with them.
Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
is there just a difference in clutch sizes between diesel and petrol
Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
You mean a difference between Turbo diesel/petrol and N/A diesel.MADSHORT wrote:is there just a difference in clutch sizes between diesel and petrol
Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
Dads 93 75 series 1hz turbo diesel runs a H151F same as my 80 came factory like that (confirmed by 1st owner and Toyota), just the transfer was different being Part-time compared to a full-time 80 series

Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
The H151F box is the same in both the FZJ80 and the HDJ80. They both run the 12' clutch. I'm not sure if the bellhousings are the same but the HZJ80 and HDJ80 bellhousings are the same.
The H150F is just as strong, has a lower first and second gear ratio, and can be mated to the 12" clutch using an Isuzu clutch plate that is 12" diameter and has the fine spline to suit the H150F input shaft. That is what I am using for my 1HD-FTE conversion on my HZJ80.
Any 80 series transfer case will fit any of the 80 series boxes.

Just to confirm for others reading this thread.
1990 to 1998 80 series. Gregorys workshop manual page 127.
Model:
Non Turbo ... H150F
Turbo... H151F
Difference in gears 1st and second. H151F is STRONGER with a bigger clutch to handle the 30% more power and torque.

Ok, can the 1st and 2nd from the H150F fit into the stronger H151F I find 1st quite bad in my 1HDT80 when 4x4ing?TheBigBoy wrote:Just to confirm for others reading this thread.

Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
is it stronger simply because it has a higher first gear ratio though?TheBigBoy wrote:Just to confirm for others reading this thread.

Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
Could be? I dont have the info to show how it is stronger. Nor do I know if the gearing is interchangable. But there is a fairly big difference between power and torque for turbo vs n/a. I have access to alot of toyota and lexus dealerships. Some of the old school tec's should know. Ill ask the question.
Re: 80 SERIES H151F PETROL AND DIESEL COMPATABILITY
My Fzj runs the h150 and a mates 1fz same year runs h151

Somethings goin on. If they are on the id plates, take a pic. And what years? We'll get to the bottom of this.
A mate of mine owns lexus and toyota. I have been through all of the parts guys in all of his locations. There is not 1 logical answer or system to all of this.
