60 series low range selector

Post by Tom HJ60 »

Hey guys

My 60 keeps dropping out of low range when im out, to the point where the passenger holds it in if there is a big climb. any idea if i need to take the box out to fix it or if its just a adjustment??

cheers

does it have body lift? have you checked the gearbox mount to see if it is still intact?

Body lift -pop the boots and trim the trans tunnel.

Busted mount - will cause trans to move and pop it into 2WD -L

Also, if the bolts are loose on the support bracket it will pivot allowing the selector to move forward into 2WD-L ;)

Yeh it's got a body lift and I've trimmed the trams tunnel, and it's a 84 model G pack with the L shaped shifter, it stays in H4 no worries but not L4

If I've trimmed the surrounding area of the shifter, will it still pop out if my gearbox mount is dead?? And how involved is replacing the gearbox mount??

The frame or bracket on the side of the trans also prevents the lever from moving forward into 2WD/L. If the bolts are loose on the bracket or its been bent/knocked forward the t/case can slip into 2WD/L.
Put the lever into 4WD/L and then have a look under the car at the bracket....is there a gap towards the front of the lever...? Or is the bracket pivot loose enough to pivot off the two mounting bolts...?

To shift mine from h4 to l4 I push the shifter to the right, will that change anything?

Check the passenger side engine mount.
