Body Chop Questions
Body Chop Questions
Really considering this and making it a ute with a tube tray.
Have demolished my rear quater panel so atm it seems a pretty reasonable idea.
Is it a good idea to use the rear door off of a hard top and weld that into the gap. considering it already has a window and I'm guessing the ribs for stability. Take off the Door opening mechinism and the lock and bog it up.
has anyone done this and is it a good idea?

Re: Body Chop Questions
yeah thats a how it is done generally.
im my opinion, id be sourcing another quarter panel.
with a tube tray you cant hold as much equipment, it raises you center of gravity and it really heavy.
i believe it would be actually make you car less capable.
it will also be illegal without a engineers cert and be cop bait.
apart from that good luck.

Re: Body Chop Questions
Nah mate, cbf with the quarter panel. It's so annoying having a fiberglass top that constantly rattles and leaks. The other main reason I'm make it a tube tray ute is to fit a 70ltr tank. also going to make a custom toolbox to sit behind the rear window. with all the equipment. And the be able to carry a spare 31" on the back with a shovel and jack
Re: Body Chop Questions
as for the engineering cert. Do you need them to approve the vehicl.e or approve designs or the have to design it? what's the go with that??
Re: Body Chop Questions
i dont know how bad the damage is, obviously.tyron wrote:Nah mate, cbf with the quarter panel. It's so annoying having a fiberglass top that constantly rattles and leaks. it will be 1000000 x nine gazillion billion ( thats a lot)easier to just cut the panel out and replace it.
but i recon im typing to my self here as it sounds like you have your heart set on destroying your car. i look forward to buying you unfinished project on ebay, for spares.

Re: Body Chop Questions
Helpful advice is him saying it's easier to fix what's been damaged and I don't believe it's a good idea.zook4fun wrote:And this is the reason why you get no good answers here any more.

Not being a smartass and saying I look forward to buying your unfinished project.
Re: Body Chop Questions
I thought of that but the gap between the door and the body was huge. I just got a panel pressed up to match the profile and welded that in.tyron wrote:Really considering this and making it a ute with a tube tray.
