Winch Gurus: 12v Highmount on 24v [versus] 24v M12000

Calling all winch guru's who are in the know.
I am kinda in the market looking around for a 12 volt highmount winch for competition work. Would then be modified for in-cab free spool and be run on 24 volts.
I can grab a practically brand new second hand 24 volt Warn M12000 (normally $4,200 brand new) for a reasonable offer.

My question is, would the highmount (with a 6 or 7.5HP 12 volt motor) on 24v still be way quicker for normal competition work than the M12000?
I am just thinking along the lines of that perhaps the line speed of the M12000 with a standard 24v motor and the relatively light weightless-ness of a comp vehicle might be similiar to that of a high mount?

Is it even worth considering?
Would anyone even take a stab in the dark based on any experience?

One thing that's for sure is most chose the 6hp over the 7.5 as the 6hp can handle the load and speed alot better so will get more life out of them!

And if you have the coin you could get both a lowmount or highmount absolutely raging by purchasing through a winch guru, The lowmounts that come from Russtuff (rocky Arb) are crazy crazy fast! But you need to learn how to use them in the tight stuff and arent as torque as a highmount, but if you have forward momentum it'll get you up that winch wall super fast

There's also Crazy eyes winch mods, who do highmounts, we run two of them in the car I navii in (my winches are a good bargaining tool haha) and with them I run a twin motored, 24v free spooled widened drum and ratios, whereas Therese is just free spooled, the fully moded one isn't as fast as a russtuff lowmount, but torque as all hell ad apart from one user Errror (and falling pffft the bal of the ute after getting it bal from getting fixed ) it hasn't missed a beat after two
years of racing! And I'm led to believe at this point in time is the fastest highmount set up on the market (could be wrong)

I've seen other set ups but haven't had much to do with them so can't comment on them with pros and cons.. and not being biased about these two winches but just giving you an idea of what I have seen and since ones a lowmount and ones a highmount, I figure it's a way to discuss both types after they have been modified

No worries mate, Hopefully a few of us guys are down at the next round of SSS, but before that have to get through round 4 of WTC and do the Lowmead 3 car comp, if you'd like to see quite a few winch set ups in action come check out the Lowmead comp! (near Miriam vale/ agnes waters,1770) There will be a few new set ups unveiled plus the old faithful and everyone will be happy to have a chat and give info!

very good question! Should have asked that first up, when 24v was mentioned I instantly assumed open class,

Ok first thing is a 24v motor on 24v will be no quicker than a 12v motor on 12v, only the 24v motor will draw half the amps than the 12v. So a 12v @ 24 will be alot quicker than the m12000 with a 24v motor.

Secondly the reason the 12000lb winch can pull so much is because off the much higher ratio they run compared to 9000lb lowmounts. They acually all come from the factory with the same 4.6hp Motors (well the warns anyway)

So in summary. A high mount with a 12v motor @ 24v will be heaps heaps quicker than the 24v m12000

keep in mind if you are running 24v through a 12v motor no to hold it flat out with out load as the motor will spin way to fast and burn out
so best to get an air freespool instead of powering out .

i just put this on my own winch and am waiting for a freespool drum to arrive ( actually ordered a couple of drums , twin motor hats and brakeshafts to sell )
i am going to run 12v and have switchable 24v for when i need extra line speed .

No, its made by Morley in the UK for winching, braided rope with a sheath over the entire length (38m in this case).
Lockee was involved in a group buy a few years back here in Melb, I got the last lot, then sold it to Flexy when I upgraded to 50m
