current options to crawl a 80
mate just did a dual transfer setup on his hilux and has got me thinking what options are out there for the 80 cruiser. i know 4.7:1 reduction gears and i know of the crawler box from marks.
gears would solve the crawl problem but would leave me wanting my normal L4 for mud so really something similar to dual cases would be ideal.
been going through the old threads and there doesn't seem to be any concrete info (or if there is it confuses me).
Can anyone list the available options, where to get them and what they'd achieve.
considering the crawler box is $3700 + gas tank mods + tunnel cuts i am reluctant to go this way due to the hassle and the money (which i wouldn't have for a bloody long time).

Re: current options to crawl a 80
You have already covered the available options.
I contemplated it a while back, searched every website and forum I could find.
Beyond Mark's crawl box, or transfer gears (25% reduction) you would be looking at major $$ to use an atlas 3 or 4 speed transfer
From what I could find, the crawl box didn't really take off due to $$ and you need 2" bodylift, and I think there is also issues with floorpan clearancr and fuel tank clearance

26" tyres will give you a 20% reduction over 31's.

Cool will check it out. Marlin don't list these on their site.Z()LTAN wrote:Marlin crawler 'Toybox" from Locktup4x4

MC dont list it as they are still ironing out some kinks in the install parts to make our life easier.
If you want to know more about these ring Chris at Locktup4x4 to begin the process.

Re: current options to crawl a 80
Sort of. They use the reduction housing and gears from a gear driven Hilux transfer case and make adaptors and modify input/output shafts to sit between the Cruiser box and transfer.howsie wrote:http://locktup4x4.com.au/hilux-solid-fr ... x-1036.htm

Re: current options to crawl a 80
Are they developing one for H150/H151 gearbox as used in 80s? The one pictured is on a h55 gearbox isn't it?

Re: current options to crawl a 80
Team Hotondo Ran the marlin crawl box at 2011 tuff trucks, I fitted it 3 weeks before the event, was peice of piss to do... they have a 5 speed box.. Not sure of the model numbers but at the time Zultan and us were the only guys locktup had brought it in for... As Zultan said they are ironing a few bugs out as i had to slightly modify the dual housing for it to fit..
The reduction it gives was way lower than my dual hilux cases...

Re: current options to crawl a 80
So big question is how much modification and what is required to install it. With adaptors and everything needed what's the all up cost and how far away do you think Marlin are from the straight bolt in version

Re: current options to crawl a 80
Marks also sell a dually if you can get a 78/79 TC to fit to your H151F... http://www.marks4wd.com/products/gearma ... rawler.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Re: current options to crawl a 80
That's. The one I saw on the website way over priced considering the mods to the gas tank and floorpan.91Mav wrote:Marks also sell a dually if you can get a 78/79 TC to fit to your H151F... http://www.marks4wd.com/products/gearma ... rawler.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

u know a 2 speed atlas landed here in aus will cost in excess of 5k yeah?
So no, not really a viable option for most people.

Re: current options to crawl a 80
I think he was reffering to the 3700 dollar box from marks. I tend to agree under this scenario if your willing to fork out 3700 for a crawl box why not another 1300 for the atlas.Z()LTAN wrote:u know a 2 speed atlas landed here in aus will cost in excess of 5k yeah?
