Quick update:
56,000kms or so, around 5-6mm depending where you measure it left. Outer lugs have worn a bit faster on their shoulders due to me driving twisty hills roads to work and back.
Still heaps of grip on all surfaces, and the massive cut in one sidewall still doesnt leak a drop of air 20K kms after it happened- Its down through the white layer of rubber to the black again!

Got a set of 315 km2s for my patrol 4 months ago, and have been working them hard on road and off, the shoulders have rounded off mine from sliding, and taking corners too fast, but the center and inside lugs are still nearly at full tread. I currently have a set of silverstone mt117 sports in 285s to run around on while i replace all my bushes and get my steering realigned and the difference between the two is incredible, the KM2's are quiet, smooth, very responsive. The silvies definately don't stack up in my books, they rattle the teeth out of your head, they sound like and airplane getting ready to take off and like to wander all over the place on the black top.
My favorite tire to date is maxxis mudzillar, I got a second hand set off a mate 35x13.5 on 15's to help me through a troublesome run on the original KM's 35x12.5 which kept getting huge tears in the sidewalls . i can now add to this thread - kumho KL71 are far better on the road both wet and dry and on rocks... in sloppy mud its hard to tell the difference. I've run the KM2 and KL71 one week after the other its honestly given the price difference i'd recommend the KL71 every single time... the KL71 are even quieter on the road by a very noticeable amount!

at this point the KM2 look to have worn more on the same amount of travel time on the vehicle... i am very hard on my tyres though as i daily drive on them, and i drive it like i stole it...
both sets have about 5000km on them and have worn maybe 1.5mm of tread on the KM2 and about 1mm on the KL71 - but like i say its hard to judge - especially running the KM2 in winter and KL71 in summer - im betting the KL71 will run out faster through running hotter more often (summer) but i'll see =)
i have noticed the bead on the KM2 is weaker than KL71 - i regularly had the KL71 down at 8psi with great results, however twice now i've have the KM2 at 8psi and its pulled the bead enough to let all the air out (didnt break the bead luckily so could just be pumped back up).

jesus christ! how are you driving and what are you doing to them to knock 1.5mm of tread off the KM2's in 5000kms?
Mine are up to 67K kms now, and just did a trip up the oodna, across the simpson, down the birdsville, all with a loaded 100 series (3.5T+) and im STILL sitting with about 3mm of tread over the wear bars! This is a daily driven car too, through the adelaide hills and town as well as long highway trips.
I recon im going to get 70-75K kms from mine and then i'll replace em.
Even at this level of wear its hard to notice the tyre noise over background noise (or the 3" Straight through exhaust)
The main complaint I would have with the KL71's is that they are directional, which makes a spare tyre a PITA.

Update. My 285/75/16 KM2's have hit 50,000 km. 9mm of tread left on all tyres, as i rotate every 5000km. Have given them a flogging. Id estimate 15-20k of their life was off road. A few chips and scratches and last week got one puncture, but it happens and it can happen to any tyre. A quick plug up and jobs right. Absolutely brilliant tyre. Selling them to a mate next month for $100 each and im fitting a new set for a high country trip. Everyones happy!

Sigh... Turns out that KM2's are next to impossible to find in 285/75R16 around the place at the moment, with even the US experiencing a shortage.

So im getting a set of wrangler DuraTracs... will be interesting to see how they go, being more of an Aggressive AT than a muddy... Guess if they dont perform I can sell em and get a set of KM2's once the US gets more stock in!

Turbo Diesel 100 series with a Dtronic and im not gentle driving it.
The KM2's did 15,000kms on a 3.0TD LN106 hilux, then the rest on the 100 series.
im just lazy about upgrading the avatar.
As for the MTZ's, I wouldnt pay for another set of those with someone ELSES money- After i had a set that just wore away at a rate I'd expect from a set of super soft qualifying bike tyres (10mm in 10K and totally stuffed in 29K kms) and the distributor said "tough shit" when i said it was unreasonable wear for a 1.6 tonne hilux, I went the KM2's and will NEVER buy another Mickey Thompson tyre or recomend them again.
The duratracs are getting a good rap in the US, and suit my driving more these days- I dont get out and play with the cruiser anywhere near as much as I used too, and these days its either touring 4wding (simpson, flinders etc) or driving to work on the tar, so the more aggressive AT style of the Wranglers will probably suit better

I'm on my 2nd set of KM2's. I was going to give the MTZ's a run, based on a mates good experiences, but none were availablie at the time. While the 1st set of KM2's wore a little quicker than I'd hoped, I had also been driving them exceptionally hard off road - especially along fast moving stretches of road. Despite this, they never suffered any punctures or major damage and was more than happy to get them again.
I've also been told BFG had some 'manufacturing issues' in the early stages of these tyres production, which has been the cause for quicker wear than normal. In my case, they still had a good 10,000km left in them (had done about 40K km) but the tread was quite cupped and was creating a slight vibration through the car - especially round the 100kph mark. In fairness, when I consider my shocks are as good as useless and the hiding I have given them, realistically, it would be unfair for me to wholly blame a BFG manufacturing issue.
At the end of the day, for my application, they offered me all the grip I needed off road in sometimes harsh conditions, while being a great handling on road tyre. They also bag nicely round the 18-20psi mark and traction is simply awesome at 15-16psi. On road, I run them at 42-44psi. I attribute much of the good handling and traction to their soft compound and good tread design. At $460ea (315,75R16) they wont suit everyones budget but, if they do, I doubt you'll be dissapointed.

I have recently put a set of 285/75/16 on my gu. Road manners are awesome for a mud tyre and they handle bloody well in the wet for a mud have done a small stint offroad with them and so far are pleased at what i have purchased these tyres came with a good warranty as well and by what i have read will get excpetional ks overall a very good tyre you pay for what you get.

Thats was my other issue, Im about to lay down $400K on building a house, so I couldnt justify the $2000 (if i could get em) for the BFG's this time around

Had a set of BFG's on my old Patrol some years ago... ripped the side wall out of 2 of them the first time i went out, wasnt happy. the side wall was far too thin for a serious offroad tire in my opinion, they rode well and balanced well for the street though. (got dodgy repairs done)

Update - 285/75/16 KM2's have just hit 60k and still have 8mm of tread left. GQ turbo coilcab ute. As stated in an earlier post, yes they have copped a flogging.
Did the High Country with them last month, never had to reverse on any hill, they just climbed everything, and it was either wet or raining there on the trip. 20psi the whole time as i had a fair load on. Brilliant tyre.

Seeing as this popped up I'll add my $0.02 ..... 76 Landcruiser wagon 285/75 x 16 KM2's I have 6 of them did 90,000km on them and on sold them with 8mm of tread left to buy another set. Love 'em would recommend them to anyone lot's of bitumin and corrogated dirt not the greatest mud tyre but still O.K .
