Hey guys just thought I'd share my drama yesterday arvs. Was cruising along about 70km/ hour and all of a sudden felt a shudder through the steering wheel, pulled over to inspect thinking it was either a engine mount, Panhard bush or wheel bearing. Rocked the front side to side and couldn't hear/sea anything out the ordinary so I nursed it home(bout 15mins) . Didn't have time to inspect due to me and the misses going out to dinner so had a crack this morn. Jacked the front right wheel up and strait away felt heaps of movement!! So off come the wheel, hub and brake caliper to inspect the bearings. The inner bearing was completely smashed to bits!! So I was lucky enough to get to Bursons in time to get new bearings before they shut. I almost blame my self for it failing as I haven't greased them at all since I had the car( 5 odd years).. And there was next to no grease on the right hand side! I replaced the left as well even though it looked good and had plenty of grease. I'd say it had been not long before I got the car.
So anyway it's a good start to the long wknd and a reminder to those who do beach work or any forbying for that matter to take a peak at the bearings everynow and then. Oh my truck is a 98 gu, running 33/ 12.5, driveline has done about 200k
Happy long wknd!

Re: Wheel bearing failure
Nothing worse than a wheel bearing shitting itself in the middle of nowhere! Service interval is every 40k to inspect and repack/replace, but if you are doing heaps of water/mud etc I would be doing it every 20k or less just to be safe.
Re: Wheel bearing failure
I had the front left and one go on my back in June this year. The internal and external bearing along with the races all broke up, took out the stub axle and the rotor hub, due to the amount of movement its also recked the slotted front rotor and the left front brake calliper mount as its bent it out of shape. Time for new brakes, rotor hub and stub axle
