6 cylinder or 4 cylinder TD truck???

Hey Guys (and Girls)

I'm in the throws of selling the hilux and buying a truck, Isuzu or Hino.

I'm curious if anyone has any idea of fuel economy loaded and unloaded?

If it was a 4 cylinder it would be an Isuzu NQR 450 or a Hino of same size,

Or if a 6 would be an FC merlin hino, or Isuzu FSR 500.

Any info appreciated.

this is a 3-4 years ago

5cyl hino fc 8 pallet refrigerated 350km ish for about $70 on the highway

around town due too the fridge it ran all day so fuel consumption wasnt really valid used to fill up every 3-4 days but rarley did 100km a day around town

heres my 2cents.
2 good friends of mine bought two trucks both hino,
one bought a hr hino, that takes a payload of 5500kg, or something along the lines of that. for like 50 to 60g 55grand? pretty good on fuel!! even loaded,
the other bought a mr hino with a loooong tray, payload no where near the truck above, yet for the same money pretty much, why wouldnt you buy the bigger truck? both engineering businesses and have been in the top mentioned truck it is superb!!, carrys more weight for the same buy in costs yet the other truck feels cramped and hard to drive.

I wish I had 60k to spend on a truck, I was looking at a more old school truck.......maybe late 80's early 90's models.

But I do get what your saying about smaller trucks feeling cramped, and prolly underpowered.
HR or MR no difference to me, I'm licensed for anything up to and including HR.

Keep the info coming ...please.

ooh on that one,
my lawn mower guy has the same mower as your pic, its a petrol kubota and he reckons he will get a diesel next time for the torque for the long grass and better fuel.................
now he had a dualcab isuzu?? kept the sniper and stuff in the back of cab, stripped the back seats out, the truck was an ex SES state emergency service with stuff all kms on it, it only had like 60k..when i asked and his had it for a while now......... on it,
had a winch on the rear tray when he got the mower bogged...electric winch and a turfor? for the front.
simple set up but brilliant!! and ally ramps for the mower.
push mower kept on the tray
20grand? im guessing?? or less whats your budget?

About 15K or whatever I can muster for the hilux and maybe some savings....If savings are a possibility...lol

I dont mind a few klicks, like 200 thou or what ever, they last forever anyway!

My mower is a Scag turf tiger, it does 20 klms, and has a petrol V-twin 29 hp kawasaki. Good bit of gear..

I tossed up weather or not to buy a diesel, but couldn't justify 28k as opposed to 21k, the difference in fuel economy is offset in speed, as far as I can tell....
I almost bought a Kubota, good machine, I just couldn't pass up the "made in USA" badge (over engineered) with a Jap powerplant! :armsup:

Hi,

6 cylinder TD is the way to go for a truck application.

We have always used Isuzu when it comes to jap trucks.

I would expect fuel cons around 20c to 25c a km to run. If you service the truck yourself parts should be $250 to $300.

Hino UD and fuso make a good truck as well.

i have a 4cyl td isuzu (NPR 300 2002) get 550 - 600 klm to the 100lt approx)
had it down to 500 fully loaded and towing a 3t tandem at hwy speeds (100klms approx)
