QLD- ROPS WTC Round 4 - This weekend!!

Post by Mosko111 »

Well round 4 of the ROPS Winch Truck Challenge is quickly aproaching! With noms now open a large field of competitors are expected to be racing in the final round of the series!

The event will be held at the old faithfull Seeonee Park which is just outside of Rockhampton. With the park being home to exciting short sharp climbs, deep creek crossings and gullies with plenty of challenging terrain!

It will be interesting to see what the event organisers come up with stage wise, but one things certain no matter what, it will be an awesome weekend of racing for competitors and spectators alike!

So get your noms in as this round will fill up quick!

Cheers Mosko

It sounds like the main competition areas will be in the gully behind the main camping area which will be cleaned up with a bulldozer and the famous creek section where xwc used to have the night stages will be given a freshen up using some earthmoving machinery!
This area has claimed a few victims over the years with Fester doing a backwards roll in his ok'd 80 series ute, A black and yellow range rover did the exact same thing and quite a few driveline components have been turned into scrapmetal thanks to people using a heap of right foot to try and make it up and over the winch walls :D

Another point to be made, is because of the stages being close to the camping area, this will be a really family friendly event with only a short stroll from base camp to check out the racing under the shade of the large trees that line the gullies and creek system

We will be having a set up weekend in the next few weeks, so if you are around, feel free to come and give a hand.
Being the final deciding round of the year, be prepaired for possibly the hardest, most extreme event we have done this year.

Lots is riding on this event to determain the overall series points.
A few teams didn't do as well as expected in Mackay, and has opened the current totals right up.

Do not miss the weekend, as a competitor or spectator.

There are now 18 confirmed teams entering this weekend event!
With two more teams being added to the current list:
Hi Dee Ho Racing &
Pissed & Broke

There are also two other teams that are posibilities but will be confirmed today or tomorrow!

Here's some other info:
# Dukesy would like anyone with a semi trailer accessing the park to get in contact with him via phone prior to you getting there so he can tell you how to access the camping area.

# Friday nights briefing and meet and great BBQ will be held around 7:00-7:30pm and running order for sat will be given out at this briefing aswell as it will be an early start Sat morning!

# Theres plans for a photo shoot of the full field of competitors and rigs for Sat, So make sure they are all looking pretty and polished, and drivers and Naviies are in your bes attire

# The organisers will be asking for suggestions on what format would be best for next year and if there are many in suppor of running the enduro again, so have a think about it and put your ideas forward this weekend!

# All recovery gear stated in rules and regs will be required this weekend (I bloody HATE ground anchors! :bad-words:) so make sure everything is where it'seant to be and ready to be ticked of during scrutineering!

# Dont forget any relevant paperwork needed to compete!

Checked out the tracks yesterday afternoon when I attempted to
set up my tarps for camp= Fail

Did get a chance to quickly check out the stages though and it's going to be an exciting weekend! With The Pit having some new wombat holes dug in the bottom of it, and Mark has dug a couple so deep that he's hit water!! and I'm pretty sure we'll lose a certain white shorty and his short shorts wearing navi in one of them ey Shieldsy?? :finger:

The other stages are down the creek a little and will be great for spectators, with the main walls right in front of a cleared area! These stages are really rocky with a couple huge boulders on stage!! And behind these stages is a creek run with winch wall on the other side of the creek! Hopefully the water isn't to deep because Team TNT migh have to do a little more plumbing to extend their snorkel!

Can't wait for it! See you all out there tomorrow night!

And remember no dogs and no glass! So pass the word On to anyone thinking about heading out!

Haha, just stirring mate! I seriously think you may have better luck at this stage then the long wheel base rigs as they will be sitting at a pretty funky angle when the front wheels start to climb up the wall! Where you will be able to possibly re-allign. Will just have to wait and see I guess?

How's everyone else going? Ready to race or last shift to get ready tonight?

Awesome weekend out at seeonee for the 4th and final round of the Rops Winch Truck Challenge this weekend!

Team Toygoata would like to thanks Dukesy, Davo, Brent and their army of volunteers for the efforts they have put in this year!

We would also like to thank:
CQ Diesel fitting: for the huge amount of support through out the year if it wasn't for them
I'm pretty sure we would have struggled all year long.

Crazy Eyes Winch Mods: For helping us out all year when we need new rope or parts, and for building one tough ass winch that seems to love pulling the big green rig up and over anything we point it at!

Curtis Ferry Services: They have allowed Goat to bring the rig to and from Curtis island any time we've been competing!

And a special mention to Kingy for allowing us to head back to
his she to use his welder, tools and whatnot after the front doff snapped in half, and he asked and would not accept nothing in return, that's what make this sport so good! The blokes who help you out no matter what!

Catch everyone down at Lowmead in Nov where we will get a chance to give Dukesy and Brent a run for their money when they swap the whistles for race helmets!!

from a spectators point of view most unorganised 4wd comp I have ever been to. the price was also outragious for people who got there later in the arvo to watch the night stages and they cancelled the stage. the last stage that run before the night stage was also very unsafe as it wouldnt of taken much for a comp turck to land on its roof ontop of all the spectaors that were standing at the base of the walls. All in all was not impressed with how the comp was run or any factors of it and many people i speak to say the same.

You must not go to many 4wd comps then. Saturday night was postponed until Sunday morning for safety reasons because of the dust. DBD run well organised comps throughout central Qld and go to a lot of effort to make them happen. Myself as competitor and also help out as a marshall when not competing to make sure comps like these are safe for spectators and also competitors. Maybe you should have come Saturday morning and got your monies worth and also supported the Scouts like we do. Your barking up the wrong tree here. My 2 cents worth.

I just love people that want to have a go behind a sign in name.

Why not phone or go and see the organisers to express your view.

Or if you really want to put view on an open forum have the guts to add your real name to the comments.

As an organiser myself it is great to get feed back face to face, not by someone who is hidden by a computer name.

You also could have found that if you were unhappy with the evening you may have been able to ask for a refund at the time or been offered free entry for Sunday. Who know.

As far as i remember FREE entry was offerd on Sunday , it was a great event and the dust is not contolable by anyone so the organisers did the only smart thing buy posponing the stages until Sunday .

When you turned up in the afternoon to view stages, how was anyone to know that there would be an issue later on that would cause the stages to be cancelled?
And as for the stage where "a car could roll backwards onto it's roof and into the crowd" how many rolls were you expecting the car to actually do end over end?
At the base of the winch wall there was enough room for a vehicle to do a full turn and revers up the winch wall in the marked out course area and had a car and a halts length of flat ground before it started to climb upwards, then another cars length of minor hill before the steepest section, plus if it was like the two stages beside it, extra precautions was taken with anothe lot of danger tape being run away from the pink tape used to mark the course for competitors, and on occasions the commentator asked people to move back even further when certain vehicles entered the stage with the intention of attempting to drive the walls.... I may also add they didn't ask the crowd to move back because of a car possibly rolling onto them, but more ao incase rocks were dislodged and rolled down the hill.
