difference between turbo and non turbo internals

Post by starky »

About to do up a TD42 to turbo spec.

Other than the pistons and rods and fuel pump is there any other difference bettween the engines???
Crankshaft maybe?

and dose anyone know of suppliers for these bits. I have never seen conrods advertised anywhere.

Cheers Starky

Blocks are different - at least between the early and late engines they are. Apparently there are at least 3 different blocks in Nissan FAST
Turbo crank is different at the back, with a different rear main and flywheel.

there's a few massive threads on another forum of the differences. there's a lot of very incorrect hearsay about.

Many parts are interchangeable, as to how far you go depends on how much power you want and exactly what you have in the first place. You dont need all of the "turbo" bits to make some pretty stout power.

'89 is a good strarting point as they had the 'heavy duty' internals, but lack oil squirters and turbo pre coms etc AFAIK....

thats exactly what i mean by misinformation, the 89 has squirters.
My stock 93 made well over 200 RWHP reliably with 300k on it. It started to have trouble hanging together at about 240rwhp.
for only 180 just rebuild it as normal and balance it. maybe put the thickest head gasket on it and make sure you use izumi pistons.

I stand corrected.....
Always happy to learn. ;)

Oh and Starky if you need work done get onto Shaun at Diesel Central, he's in Gracemere might be too far away from you but last I heard his daily GU wagon de-laminated a 35" wrangler after it clocked 305 RWKW on the dyno....... ;)
