Hilux engine opinions
Ok Guys, I have just aquired a 96 dual cab hilux that has a dead motor. I am going to fix it up to sell it. Now my question is should I put an upgraded engine in, or just put a 22R back in it. If I do a conversion on it, What would make it the most sell-able,
My thoughts at the moment would be:
Ecotec V6
VZ commo 3.6 alloy-tec V6
1UZFE
LS1, But no sure what is involved in getting that mod-plated
Any opinions would be appreciated.
I am leaning towards an alloy-tec because they make good power, V6 rego cost, cheap and reliable. And I haven't seen it done before.
Thanks
Steve

Re: Hilux engine opinions
Any motor that isnt out of a lux will need engineers which will prob set you back an extra 1k so keep that in mind. My vote go a lux engine.

If ur only gunna sell it then id just chuck a 22r in. or the next easiest option is the ecotech. Bogans love ecotechs

Re: Hilux engine opinions
Personally I would put a 5l objected 8 outta the commys. The v6 just ain't worth it. The 1uz is nice but no replacement for displacement.
93 duel cab lux. 2.8 TD twin locked. Big tyres, little lift. Wide stance. Barwork and build up under way
Re: Hilux engine opinions
A lot of guys would prefer either the v8 sound, or something with economy so that could make the v6 option least appealing (to me). I think a turbo diesel would have the best outright resale, but probably cost a lot of $ to put in. If you can manage a 1kd conversion it might bring you some future auto elec business.
I don't know if I would personally pay much more for a hilux with an LS1 over 5L commodore. The 1UZ seems to be such a tight fit- if you are building to sell do you want to muck around with rear radiators etc?
So my 2c is on 5L commy or something diesel.

Re: Hilux engine opinions
I have allways been interested in seeing a alloy tech engine in a lux but no one seems to consider them. They are a great motor and if you can get the 190kw version it would be a perfect match i think.

Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)
Re: Hilux engine opinions
I agree that a 1KD would be great, But don't think I will get my money back. Personally I have always considered the 5L a bit over rated and would prob not consider it when you can have an alloytec with near the same power but better economy.
I would really like to go with an alloytec because I think it would be a good R&D project to get a conversion kit sorted for them. The are a cheap, light, powerfull little motor so think it would go really well.

Re: Hilux engine opinions
The alloytech is more powerfull then the ealier 304 as they only had 165kw aswell. You need to go to VS clubsport to get 185kw and it is still a heavy lump which is not good when there is a lighter and more powerful option.killalux wrote:I agree that a 1KD would be great, But don't think I will get my money back.
