Recently i raised the question in general chat about leaving wheel hubs in the lock or free mode, and one of the replys was that toyota's are renouned for seizing if left in lock. Well low and behold just after getting mine back from the shop i decide to check if mine have seized and yes one has!
Was wondering if this is something quite simple to fix and would anybody want to help/show me how to fix it (for a carton of course) as my mechanical knowledge goes as far as changing filters.

Ive got nothing better to do tonight... Here goes.
Its pretty easy. Just needs cleaning. You just have dust and mud in your spring most likely. Remove the 6 bolts around the dial. And tap a pointy edge behind the plate to expose it a bit. Then use a chizel or flat head screw drivers (2 of) and leaver it evenly. The spring will stretch and if someone can tap the hub with a rubber mallet, the vibrations will free and it will pop out. Clean it all and check its twisting freely and ofcourse engaging and locking, before doing the bolts back up. You will need a gasket or some goo when putting it back on.
If you want to remove the hub aswell. Using a circlip remover, remove the snapring on the end of your axle. Losen off the other 6 nuts until about 2 turns left on the screw. (Flame suit on) tap the hub with a mallet above each bolt and the cone washers will spring free. If there is no nut on the end they will shoot off and you wont find them again. Then remove nuts, washers and cone washer. And clean all of your assembly. Again a gasket or goo is needed when installing.

It's parts numbers 8 thru 12 that you need to disassemble, clean and lubricate. Often the little spring and detent ball are rusted so replace as necessary.
Don't go to town torquing the little M6 bolts as they shear easily

Thanks for the responses. Seems quite straight forward tho my confidence is lacking. I will study the video a little more and also have a look in owners manual to see if there is anything.

Videos i have seen on how to do this all say to put in free position. Does it matter that its in lock when doing this?

Isnt it seized? When installing leave it in unlock possition. When taking it out it doesnt matter.

You can wipe it all over with moly grease or similar. Do not fill behind the hub or it will hydraulic out and not lock in.
