4.88 diff gears needed for 37s?

Post by MEANRX »

Going to be running 37s on my fj45 with 60 series diffs and 5 speed. Will i need to change from 4.11 to 4.88 gears? its not running yet so cant test on the road with the 4.1s. Im putting lockers and chromo axles in and would like to fit 4.88s at the same time if needed. Only worried about gearing for on road as will be regularly driven and doesnt matter if i keep 4.1s so much offroad as im looking at fitting a marlin crawl box. Cheers.

You'll want either 4.56's or 4.88's. I ran 35's on 4.1's for a while and while it's not too bad, it's not at all good. Are you running reduction gears as well?

No reduction gears mate. Will have to wait for the dollar to come back up a bit then so I can order diff tears from the
states. Im' running an ls1 if that makes any difference. Cheers.

As 91mav said it's ok but not great. I'm currently running 37's and 4.11 (my 4.56 diff shat itself) and whilst the car gets along quite well on the road it's far from ideal. (turbo HJ75)

Yer man I agree with mav91 it's worth swapping over. I am going to run 37s with 5.29 but it's not a daily. With 4.11 and 37s you won't have much crawling cause you'll
Always be revving to keep it crawling so won't really be much low range

*should have mentioned, I'd recommend 4.56's, especially with the ls1 and crawler box.

I'd probably go 4.56, I daily drive on 35''s with 4.1's and its great I wouldnt want any different gearing, though it helps having ~500Nm torque.

Transfer gears are a cheaper option than changing the diff gears.
I run 4.11's with duel cases and 40's off road with no probs.
