My feroza seems to be refuelling automatically ...

Hi all,

I just noticed something very weird. I`m quite sure my tank is half empty, but during a ride I see my indicator slowly sliding to Full. Any ideas?

u've been drinking and confused the temp guage with the fuel guage?

does it stay on full, or is it related to the angle the vehicle is on? if it's not the angle, could be ur sender's stuffed. armchair mechanic talking tho, i'm sure someone who actually knows their stuff will chime in soon..

Not angle related. When I switch on the ignition, for a moment it indicates the correct measure, but a second later you can see that needle turning to Full. And that`s where it stays. When I switch off the engine, the needle drops normally.

my fuel gauge reads the amount of fuel I have wether the ignition is on or not

My original one used to read the amount of fuel in the tank regardless of the ignition.

Now, it goes up and down whilst driving, it never gives me an accurate level.

So I go by how many km's I've done since filling it up (Yeah....all 120 litres......it gets a bit expensive), but I also have an 'early warning system', that the engine usually lets me know when I running low when I do right hand turns and the fuel moves away from the pick-up.

I need a surge tank !!!

As for your problem, you may need to drop your tank and check all the wires are correctly positioned....etc

Mine doesn't show it when its off. My old car used to do that (show the fuel gauge going up when driving along). the Auto electrician told me the fuel centre was out

Different problem I suspect, my Patrol guage goes up as you drive, because the fuel return line goes to the main tank, even when I'm running on the sub tank, then the overflow from the main tank goes back into the sub tank when it's full. I can empty 50 litres in about 50km

Add into that the fact I had a dicky fuel guage, an unmarked fuel tank switch and didn't realise the filler had a "Y" neck to select which tank I was filling (thought I had to fill one to overflow into the other) and I had an absolute ball the first few weeks, running out of fuel, putting $50 in, still won't run on that tank. Put another $20 in and it then works but runs out halfway home, put $50 in and all is OK for a couple of days

well nothing could get more confusing than my old feroza. Get this. When tank is empty guage reads empty. When tank 1/2 full guage reads 1/2 full but when tank is full guage reads empty??? can be rather embarasing if you havent driven it for a week or so and go to fill up and tank is already. put $1.20 in it one day. worst was when you think its was full and run out halfway to camping weekend. D'oh. luckily it was also on LPG. Dont have to worry any more sold it

Back in the 80's I put 23cents worth in on the way to work on payday after a lean week, it was all I had if I didn't make work I didn't get the cash, drove like a miser the 50km there and back, turning the motor off and coasting down hills, made it one block short of the servo when I ran out, but that 23 cents got me up the exit ramp and just over the last hill, probably saving me a 5km walk.
