Dates for 2012 Tough Tracks 4x4 Challenge Series

At last nights meeting the dates for the 2012 Series of Tough Tracks 4x4 Challenge have been set and parks have been contacted.

Round 1 will be held at Janowen Hills 4x4 Park on the weekend of the 3rd & 4th of March 2012. This Date may change depending on a vote at the presentation dinner to fit in with Tuff Truck.

Round 2 will be held at Landcruiser Mountain Park on the long weekend of the 9th & 10th of June 2012. This comp will only be held on the Sat & Sun so we can play on Monday.

Round 3 will be held at The Springs 4x4 Park on the weekend of the 8th & 9th of September 2012.

So make sure you set these dates aside and we welcome you to come along and compete in or watch next years Series of Tough Tracks 4x4 Challenge.
Also all vehicles will need to be scrutineered prior to round 1 next year. We have discussed having a scrutineering day at Redlands 4wd Centre early next year so that everyone can meet in the same place and have their vehicles scrutineered.

We may be postponing Round 1 to April but it will be put to a vote at the EOY presentation.
Unfortunatly Outlaw Competitors that are competing in Tuff Truck wont compete in anything before they go to Tuff Truck so we will see how we go. We had round 1 this year a month before and still got told it was to close to Tuff Truck.

I know in our case last year with round 1 we were planning on using it as a tester, but we competed in a completly different car as the other one was not ready.
I can completly understand why these guys dont want to risk breaking the car a month out from a comp, especially when you are forking out an entry fee as huge as tuff truck.

That maybe a possability but we need to know what sort of support you are going to get if we held it in April and would that support carry on for the other 2 rounds?.
Would more Outlaw competitors come if we hold it in April?????
The only other problem we may have is insurance and how much would it cost us for an extra event away from our usual 3 events.
It is something that we can discuss in the club meetings.
My suggestion is if you want to support it then 1. Show your support here or on the Rockracing forum. 2. Come to the next meeting and show your support there also
The club will listen to numbers so if the numbers are there it may well be a possability.

Hi All,

it is not just the Outlaw competitors that have concerns about the dates, competitors from the other classes go to Tuff Truck as spectators. Having 2 events of the same type so close together may make it difficult for spectators from both events to attend both events. Tuff Truck and Tough Tracks are both events that run a short course over difficult terrain - so we do not want to compete with Tuff Truck, but work in with their dates.

Brett's suggestion is an option but not one that we favour at this point in time whilst other options are still available. The club was asked if we could provide track time in our competition for truggies & buggies and that is what we have tried to do. We have been able to include the Outlaw class under our insurance but to run an extra event would require more dollars. A number of our members and regulars have moved from other classes to Outlaw, and being as we do not run too many social events, it is a good time for everyone to catch up. We would prefer to keep the event all together if possible, so much so that we are prepared to move round 1 into April (not school holidays or Easter).

This will also give the other classes chance to bring their vehicles up to spec in relation to the rules. We will have a sausage sizzle / scrutineering day in January or early February as the vehicles have not been scrutineered for some time. I've noticed a few things whilst watching the vehicles on track - no winch on one Challenge Class vehicle, tyres not substantially covered, spare tyre too small, LSDs too tight, Mod class will require a roll cage for 2012 etc. etc.

So having Round 1 a bit later in the year will probably suit more people.

forget about any outlaw competitors coming to a club meeting to show support .
there are only a few of us that are local the rest are from as far away as coffs and gympie .
if any of the outlaw guys have some ideas please post them up and show some support and give the club an idea on numbers .
if you dont then it will die and you will be complaining that there are no comps for you.

Brett this is true.
Tough Tracks 4x4 Club saw a need to run an extra class for Outlaw after being approached last year by owners of vehicles that were highly modified.
Seeing this need for a NEW class we decided to run, with the help of officials, a new class this year.
We can only keep this class and any other class running with support from competitors and officials as it does cost the club extra insurance and time.
We are not going to compete with Tuff Trucks in anyway but are trying to fit in our schedule around those competitors that enter Tuff Truck.We are a club that will listen to our members and competitors.
We need you to show your support on here if you can't attend the meetings or the end of year presentation. We will be voting to change the date of round 1 to April (a month after Tuff Truck) at the end of year presentation and if you cant make it we need your support on here or email us saying that you would more likely attend an event in April rather than in March.
So please support the club that is supporting Outlaw competitors we need the numbers to put to the vote at the presentation dinner.

May as well toss my 2c worth in.

The dates that have been set have all 3 rounds being completed within 6 months. What about spreading out the events. Possible move round 1 back to January like it once was. In light of what Pete K has said a couple of posts above this is not rely possible this year but in the future maybe.

As for Tuff Truck, it's not just the outlaw cars that are competing. We are still going to compete in tough tracks no matter what next year but if it could be moved either earlier or later this would be good for obvious reasons. Lats year we chose to not do round one because of Tuff Truck and regreted it so not this time. Cross fingers I guess.

The problem we have had for organizing next years rounds is the the fact that Tuff Trucks is 1 month earlier than it usually is.
As we had guys not attend round 1 this year due to it being to close to Tuff Truck it seemed we were in a no win situation regardless of when we held it before Tuff Truck so there was little we could do apart from hold it in March or as we have discussed later in April a month after Tuff Truck.
For most people that attend Tough Tracks they would understand that Jan & Feb events tend to get rained out so we oppted to hold it later in the begining of the year and Tuff Trucks is earlier in the year and the dates had to clash.
There has been nothing set in stone and this is the reason we have posted dates so far out from next years series so that we can get feed back from competitors.
We will be voting on a date change for round 1 to mid April at the EOY Presentation so make sure you are there.
This is the reasons we have monthly meetings to discuss these things we are a club that listens so don't be affraid to voice your opions directly to us by email info@toughtracks4wdclub.org or you can phone us as most of you have the numbers if not PM us.

Here's my 2c worth

My truck isn't nearly capable enough for tuff trucks but i'd say it's pretty close to being able to run Toperi and the like. I would enter tough tracks outlaw class no matter what time of the year as Toperi and KOR are pretty much the only comps i'd enter. I can't do Toperi this year as it's a week after KOR and also on my wedding day.

The only issue for me is that i work offshore on a roster so it's a 50/50 percent chance whether it falls on when i'll be in australia at all, but then that's an issue for me and not for anyone else.

I can't find a link to the proposed vehicle specs or the comp on this thread, is there some more info available elsewhere?

Edit: After seeing some of the pics from round three, i'd say i'm closer to challenge class. Guys i think you need to make the vehicle classes more easily available somewhere

Well it has been voted on and the date for Round 1 of Tough Tracks 4x4 Challenge Series has been changed to April 14th and 15th at Janowen Hills 4x4 Park.
This is to allow competitors who are competing and spectators at Tuff Truck to recoop and rebuild ready for Round 1. This will also hopefully be late enough for it to stop raining.
